573.0. "Saigon Kick" by GOES11::G_HOUSE (Certified Marshall-slut) Wed May 15 1991 19:56

There was some talk elsewhere about Saigon Kick and I was curious what
they sounded like. I read a review of their album in some guitar
magazine recently that said they were "for people who like Janes
Addiction without the geeky wierdness". Sounded interesting to me...

"Janes Addiction without the geeky wierdness".

I will go along with the second part of that but the first part NO WAY!

They are nothing like Janes Addiction, certainly not live anyway!

There music is difficult to qualify, but they do remind me of somebody!
    The Pogues maybe (^8*.

As I said before, they are pretty versatile, but also erratic! Some of
the stuff they played was really good while others were awful!

O.K. O.K. I was certain someone would be ragging this band to death now
so I guess I will simce nobody has!!!!!!!

Love is on the way...is getting major airplay on radio and Mtv.
This song is a total rip-off and it's bland as piss.
The video looks just like "More than words" except for some color and
that stupid lead singer waving his hands around...It all seems so
    contrived!

I don't know anything about the video, since I haven't seen it, but I
heard the song (I think we're talking about the same one) a month or so
ago on the radio. I thought it was pretty good at the time.

back and it sounded great on first listen.

Both those songs are great. The rest of the album (Minus "Chanel") is
    horrid.

I liked that song the first time I heard it, but by the third time, it
already sounded stale and was starting to make me ill. Now I have to
change the station instantly when it comes on to avoid certain nausea!

The Video for Love Is On The Way looks to me like a copy of Extreme's
More Than Words video. Same ballady type song, same B&W footage of the
band members sitting down and singing close to the camera like that.

The Lizard has got to be my fav album this week, i don't like a couple
of the songs but most of the album rules! I think it would've been
even better if they had a proper producer.
Does no-one else like them? Are they supporting Extreme at the U.K.?

Ewan, tell us more about the musical style on the rest of the album.
I've only heard a couple of songs.

Greg, most of the albums pretty much in your face type rock, It's got
some cool heavy riffs and the odd screaming lead. The lyrics are a bit
strange but i suppose thats part of the attraction for me! Like i said,
cause the guitarist produced it, theres plenty of vocals and guitar, too
much so in some cases, but thats me being picky. I love the album at
the moment but theres a couple of songs i skip cause they're naff.

Well worth buying if you ask me, 16tracks in 52mins.

Sounds interesting! I'd heard them compared to Jane's Addiction in the
past, do you hear any of that?

I don't like Janes Addiction, so i don't think they have anything in
    common....;-)

I saw SK a few years back supporting Extreme at the Marquee in London,
i had only heard one song off there first album at that time, which i liked
but i thought they sucked big time live (no energy). Now i hear there
bassist's left and i doubt they're any better live! But still a good
    second album.
