507.0. "Dr. Mastermind" by KETJE::VLASIU () Thu Mar 07 1991 04:19

I had the occasion to listen Dr. Mastermind's first album. It's good
quality speed metal with many excellent guitar breaks. To my surprise,
I discovered that Dr. Mastermind himself (bass/vocals) is no other than
Matthew McCourt, the original singer from Wild Dogs. Add to this that
on the first Dr.M album the drumming comes from Deen Castranovo (also
from Wild Dogs). Only the third person is not from Wild Dogs (the
guitarist which I don't remember the name - but he's very good).
Now the bad part is that since the initial album of Dr.M, Deen
Castranovo has left the band (for Bad English ?).
In any case the first album from Dr.M is well recommended, especially
    for Wild Dogs fans.

"The Villa" is on a Shrapnel compilation called "Fretboard
Frenzy" ... I don't remember the song very well, but I do
    	remember that I liked it.

Re. GTI

It's also "The villa" (on a compilation CD) which determined me to listen all
the original CD.

Yes!!! When did this album come out? I LOVED the Dogs! Why didn't
Lisa from CA tell us about this one? Listening Lisa? We haven't heard
from you in ages, anyway... I'll have to keep an eye out for this one.
Is it on some obscure label? Is the album anything like Reign of
    Terror?

Hmm... Oh well. She was a valuable source of info when it came to
Deen and his doings. I don't think she was a temp, so I guess she's
    not here anymore.

The album appeared somewhere in 1988 I think. It is not so aggressive as "Reign
of Terror". On RoT the singer was Michael Furlong (which is a little bit better)
The Dr. Mastermind album is more guitar oriented and the guitar solos (in each
song) are the strongest point. I still prefer RoT. Dr. M is aparently closer to
the first album from Wild Dogs.
