505.0. "Scat Opera" by DUCK::PERKINSP (Positive Mental Octopus) Wed Mar 06 1991 08:53

Here's a topic for Scat Opera who have just released their debut album
    entitled About Time.

    "reeks of naked full enthusiasm"

    "tight as a ducks arse"

    "an exceptional and epileptic debut"

From the reviews I've read they seem to play the same type of jazz funk
    metal from hell as RHCP.

kerrang!	" music executed with a crazy-eyed zeal akin to DRI. Scat
Opera are hard like Black Flag, elastic like FNM and thud funky like
    latter-day RHCP"

That's one way NOT to get me to buy an album ... by compar-
ing the band to DRI, or even RHCP.

But, I do think there will be alot of this type of band in
    	the [near?] future.

Yeah, compare them to someone good that GTI likes,
like ABBA, or Air Supply, or even John Valby.

    Scat Opera About Time ***

Coming on like an amalgam of the Chili Peppers in a fist fight with the
Dead Kennedy's in Eddie Van Halen's closet, Scat Opera's debut platter
reeks of naked, youthful enthusiasm. It more than makes up for the
blunted impact of the sparce production and the occasional
inconsistency of the material. While there's nothing here that
suggests that the Scat have a knockout punch up their sleeve this time
around, there's enough meat on the bone to imply that they stand a good
chance of lasting the distance. Give 'em a break and watch 'em go!

I went to see Scat Opera support Mordred at the Marquee club on Friday
night and they were excellent. They live up to all their reviews.
Their music and act are definitely along the lines of RHCP, totally
    manic.

Now Mordred were a bit of a let down. ALthough their music sounded
great and the DJ was awesome, they (the rest of the band) seem to have
lost alot of their old energy and leave it all down to the DJ.
