499.0. "Toxic" by KETJE::VLASIU () Tue Mar 05 1991 03:41
I have seen since quite a long time the CD "Think this" from the band Toxic, but
because of the band name I hesitated to buy it (I thought it was one more thrash
band). After reading more information about the band and the album (very good
critics) I decided to take a risk and buy the CD.
Very good decision.
"Think this" is the second album from Toxic and was released in 1989. It is
speed metal with some jazzy influences and very good guitar breaks from the
main axe man, Josh Christian.
Toxic is difficult to position. They are very creative and the closest
comparisons are to define them as some speed metal version of Rush or Fates
Warning. They are all very good and very inventive, the singer having a voice
closer to Fate Warning's or Flotsam and Jetsam's singers. Definetly a
progressive speed metal band (although the album includes also an excellent and
very slow ballad).
The production is very good and it is the kind of CD which is very good to
listen with headphones (many details). They also use some keyboards at the right
places (like in an intro from J.S. Bach).
On the album you find also a good cover of "Out on the tiles" from Led Zeppelin.
It's a well recommended album.
They are from Worcester (close to New York) and the band composition is:
Charles Sabin - lead vocals
Josh Christian - lead guitar & backg. voc.
John Donnelly - rhythm guitar, keyboards & backg. voc.
Brian Bonini - bass, keyboards & backg. voc.
Tad Leger - drums & backg. voc.
