483.0. "Nocturnus" by DUCK::PERKINSP (Modern day braves w/1 stronghold) Mon Feb 18 1991 14:00

Anyone heard of the keyboard thrash (that's a new one on me) outfit
called Nocturnus? They are currently touring the UK as part of the
"Terrordrom part five and a half" tour with Benediction, Impaler and
    Necrosanct.

If I'm to believe that this is a mostly Keyboard low life band-
Please-anybody-Let me know more as you hear it.

Since I over tuned all 6 strings and broke em all 2 years ago,
and have this two stringer Old Eletric Organ now(I think I love it)
I would love too hear about a band like this..

I listened yesterday "The key" and here are my first impressions:
Nocturnus is a heavy thrash/speed metal band which uses also keyboards
(synthesizers) proving that there is a place for such instruments even in thrash
music (when they are well used).
Now, Nocturnus are not the only to use keyboards because Coroner and Toxik also
use very well keyboards. The keyboard sounds create much of the background
atmosphere of the songs.
Nocturnus is quite much influenced by Coroner (close to Coroner's R.I.P album)
but they have less punch than Coroner and the compositions are not as strong
as Coroner's. Celtic Frost influence is also there. The instrumentals are very
fine with many fast guitar leadings but the vocals are a little bit like a bad
imitation of Coroner vocals and use too much voice enhancing (well, 'enhancing'
is not maybe the right word for that "out of the grave" voice).
I still have to listen more of it to have a better impression. It is quite a
good album, but if you don't like Coroner or early Celtic Frost don't mind
about it.
It is also a long CD (>48 mins.) so you have to be patient. Their drummer (a
good one) comes from Morbid Angel.
