I read recently about Golgotha which seems to be a british 'band' constituted by one man, named Karl Foster. Golgotha released the first album named "Unmaker of worlds" which was descripted as a new attempt to combine heavy metal and classical music. In Hi Fi news the critics were quite good but I never heard the album. Has anyone heard it (or about it) ? There are 4 long pieces on the album. Sorin

I used to be in a band that went by this name. They're going to be mighty bummed out if they're still together...8-)

Re. Flip In Metal Hammer also the critics were little favourable saying that Golgotha is trying to do a combination for which there are no amateurs (metal and classical). I think they were wrong because many people like both metal and classical music. In Hi Fi News Ian Kenyon writes critics which are much closer to my taste. To go back to Metal Hammer, they have written a bad review on Lethal's "Programmed" comparing them and mostly the singer (Tom Mallicoat) to Bruce Dickinson. Lethal has *nothing* to do with Iron Maiden (maybe in one song there is something recalling IM but this is all. Lethal are *much* closer to Queensryche, and with all the respect to Bruce Dickinson, Tom Mallicoat has to be compared only with Geoff Tate (wider range than Bruce in any case). So I only take in consideration critics which have tastes close to mine (not for qualifying them but for chosing my CDs). There are *very many* bands which are highly praised but which I just cannot stand. Sorin

I listened "Unmaker of worlds" and in this case I have to say that it deserves the "predictable" qualification as mentioned by Flip earlier. It's some kind of heavy metal Rick Wakeman except it does not hook from the first listening. Sometimes it recalls also Gentle Giant (the voice of Karl Foster especially) but less impressing. I have to listen more because some parts are interesting (all the CD has 4 long songs). If you don't like complicated seventies progressive/symphonic/pomp rock don't mind about it. It has to be mentioned again that this is a single man band (vocals included). Sorin
