390.0. "Steelheart" by JUPITR::WCLUETT (Sorry Jack...CHUCKY'S BACK!!!!) Thu Jan 10 1991 11:39

Does anyone have informatiopn on the Conn. band Steal Heart?
I can't seem to find the album anywhere. They have the hit song
"Never Let You Go". I think this guy has one of the best new
voices of the year. How does the rest of the album compare to
this song? Do they perform in the area at all??? etc...

I have NEVER heard anyone (male) screech so high at the
end of a tune, but you're right, Wayne. I like the song
and I'd like to hear the rest of the album but haven't
    	seen it anywhere...

BTW ... I happened to see ONE Steelheart cassette at
Lechmere in Greendale Mall last night. Only ONE.
And they didn't have it on CD at all.

So... the album IS out there but it looks like it's going
    	to be hard to find.

I've had this album since at least August, so it IS out there
somewhere. The album's good. A couple of ballads, and some
    	b*llsy rock, too.

I did pick up the CD a few weeks ago and haven't listened
to the entire thing yet (been too busy listening to Patsy
Kline) but I find his voice to be somewhat annoying with
    	that constant screech sound.

    	Maybe it'll grow on me.

I havent checked it out either and I do not like his voice, but Jack
says it's awesome and every tune is great and the music is something
like TNT. Now that that's said, I'll wait for Buck to go get it and
tell me if Jack is right or wrong :').

...question??.....is it his voice that bugs you or is it the way it's
used in the production of the various songs...i happen to like his
voice ALOT....it's very powerful etc...i've seen him live so i KNOW he can
sing...but sometimes his voice annoys me too so i thought about why it
annoys me...it's not the tone or timbre, to me, it's the way they use
or OVERuse his abilities on many of the songs...can get extremeley
repetitive etc......all of the tunes are built around his amazing
vocal ability and that in itself can get overused..IMO...anybody else

Arrrghhhh - I hate the guy!!!

His voice *sounds* teriible, however he can sing very well.

That may sound like a contradiction, but there is a fine line between
    singing and sounding good.

Examples :- o Ozzy can't *sing* for toffee, but his voice SOUNDS
    		   great.
o Bruce Dickinson can sing well, but his voice (to my ears)
has no dynamics - its just a drone.
o Mark Slaughter has a very good voice (ability wise) but
the *sound* of his voice grates on some people.

    Get what I mean ?

390.55BUSY::SLABOUNTYI'm so damn cool.Wed Oct 21 1992 13:1817

Well, I listened to "Tangled in Reins" last night, and have to
say it compares very well with their first album.

"Late for the Party" is a catchy tune:

"Call me black, call me white,
    	call me anything you like,
Just don't call me late for the party."

And the band's anthem, "Steelheart", cranks ... starts out
slow and strange [vocals in the background, stereo F/X, etc.]
    	but picks up.

Basically, if you liked their first, I think you'll like this
