pony-tail/braids in his hair screaming at the top of his lungs & it's
got some wierd pattern in the background with all these psychedelic
colors. Pretty wierd; guess it goes hand in hand w/ thier music.

Me and Buck do agree on something, It's amazing!!!!!!!!!!!
These guys are boring and have no sense of melody.
Maybe if I was on ac*d I might enjoy them but since
those days are long gone they have no chance in my book!
"THE MAN IN THE BOX" is very boring and sums up what I wish
they would do:EX-"I'm the man in the box drowning in my
SH*T." I mean who in their right mind would like that?!!?!?

I just picked up Facelift last week at the CD library and I have to
say that overall I like their sound. It is quite 'Cultish' as said
earlier but has a slightly harder edge to it. What I like is that they
have tried to create a sound of their own and mostly succeeded.
Musically there are some good riffs in there with an above average
drummer helping out. The singer is no screamer, though the lyrics are
a bit wierd, and often offensive, and matches the general feel of the
band.
All in all I like this first album and look forward to hearing more
from them in the future. I am sure they will get even better.

ask "So...how'd you like it, Greg?"
Well, I'd have to say that it's got it's weirdities, but I really like
it right now. "Down in a Hole" is an absolutely ROOLIN tune!!!
Looking for this note, I checked a couple of old replies, pretty
interesting...

321.102 | | GOES11::G_HOUSE | Big cheese, MAKE me! | Thu Dec 03 1992 12:22 | 20 |
| I forgot to mention in my last note that there's an interview with the
guitar player for AiC in the current Guitar World magazine.
It's fairly interesting reading, a couple of things he said I thought
were worth writing in here.
One was that he said when he first wrote the song "Down in a Hole", he
didn't think the band would ever want to record it 'cause it was so
light, but he played it for 'em and they loved it! I'm kind of
surprised, since it's one of my favorite tracks, and doesn't sound out
of place to me at all!
He also said that he was sure people would take the song Junkhead out
of the context in the album and think they were "waving the flag" for
drug use. But he said that in the album context, it was actually a
very strong statement against drug use, since several of those songs
there were intended to be played together, as a medly. Junkhead, Dirt,
Godsmack, Hate to Feel, and Angry Chair all go together as a set.

| I've been listening to 'Dirt' a bit lately. I didn't expect to like it much,
but thought I'd give it a fair shot. It surprised me a bit - there's some
decent stuff on here! It's not a great album or anything, but it doesn't
really s*ck like I thought it would!
My favorite tune has to be "Rain When I Die" - this tune is awesome! It
totally reminds me of early Blue Oyster Cult, right down to the harmony
vocal lines and the cool odd-time-signature guitar riffing!
I also liked "Junkhead" a lot, too. That trilogy (or whatever it's supposed
to be) is all pretty decent.
Their sound grated on me after a while, so it really had to be a well written
song in order for me to like it. "Rain When I Die" definitely falls in that
category, as may some of the other ones.....

| I remember pissing on this band because I hated the
song Man in the Box... but I'm a convert to AiC now
because of DIRT. Incredible album... well, actually
I tend to rewind side one over and over again, and
then play the first song on my Singles soundtrack
to pick up my other fave Alice toon. I'm so bored with
most bands, and new bands, but this album really
surprised the heck outta me.
I think the reason the songs are so good, is because
Layne Staley (especially) and Jerry Cantrell are both
f***ed up with drug/booze problems (read the long article
in Rolling Stone a few months back?) and that sense of
frustration, and desperation makes a nice cesspool of
emotions to draw from when writing such wonderfully
depressing, and angry songs. Unfortunately, the best efforts
of many bands, in my opinion, are usually created when they're
dirtbags (i.e. GnR, Motley Crue, Aerosmith, etc.)

think "GRIND" is OK, but doesn't come close to their earlier stuff. (Just to
put things in perspective, "Dirt" is one of my favorite albums of all time.)
They seem to have lost their versatility... all the songs sound the same. And
Cantrell just doesn't stand out. It did take a while for some of the stuff on
"Facelift" to grow on me, so maybe the same will happen with this CD. But,
truthfully, I don't exactly have a burning desire to listen to it again.

is the info I got...
The tune is called "Leave me Alone" and it's written and performed
mainly by Jerry Cantrell & Sean Kinney. It seems with Layne being
in an addictions program of some sort and bassist Mike Innez of doing
some side project including work with Ozzy, Jerry and Sean decided to
goof around with a tune. They did pretty good IMHO!
The tune can be found on the new soundtrack for "The Cable Guy"...
The new Jim Carrey flick, apparently Jim picked most of the songs
for the Sndtrk, other groups include Silverchair & White Zombie if
I'm not mistaken.

Yes, apparently Jim does the singing. Apparently the scene is where he,

The clip I saw had him standing in front of a screen with psychodelic

of side projects that they have done with other bands (band members)
like Mad Season (if ya like Laynes voice?) And apparently Mad Seasons
only album (Above) did so well, the guys are going to make another!
My only prob with Facelift was all the tunes sounded the same?!?!
The ones that I like are...Man in the Box, Scary, Sunshine & Sea
of Sorrow.
And don't forget...they'll be releasing an "Unplugged" album real soon!

MTV Unplugged weren't doing anything amazing. The fact of the matter is
that all in all they sounded good, hell they haven't played a gig
together in three years. Thats not to mention Layne was fresh out of

Cantrell were perfect. Then the rest of the band sounded Pretty damn
good too. Just try to chill on being such a critic and try to remember
these are people too, and they have problems like you and I.

they go into one of their own tunes...
