62.0. "Boa" by NAVIER::STARR (Would you like to go to heaven tonite) Mon Jul 30 1990 23:44

Since there seems to be an interest in the band Boa, it seemed like a good
idea to start a note for them, as opposed to cluttering up the Hurricane note.
Makes sense, no?

I checked the show at Axis and was very impressed with all 3 bands.
Boa was real good. Great stage presence and good songs. They did a
great cover of "I Can't Explain".

Electric Angles were excellent. I didn't know any of the songs but it
looks like I'm gonna have to dent the wallet again.

Hurricane- I'm biased but who cares - These guys were excellent!!!
They came on later than expected but they still kicked, playing
everything off of Slave to a Thrill and some from Over the Edge...

Overall a great night and worth the price of admission...

    Thanks Jim,

Go and put ME on the hotseat here.... I'm really not sure
WHAT is up with Boa. As far as I know they are supposed to get back
together in the fall, but over the summer some of them have
been working different projects. Stephen did a video with Bruce Bonnie
and JP's working with some friends of his. I just think the band
wanted to regroup and relax and just get away from the whole Boston
band scene for a bit...... of course, they and most of the other
bands who regularly do the Boston circuit with them, think
there's not much of a scene in Boston. I'm just repeating what I
hear every time all these bands get together backstage at jams and
vent, but there are only two or three clubs that are worth playing
(they say) and once you've done them a hundred times, it gets old.
None of them want to deal with playing the local clubs outside town.
They say it just isn't worth it, unless you haven't played
    much and need the exposure.

So basically, I don't know what is happening with the band. To the
person who wrote the note previous to Jim's, (Buck?), I find your
subject line rather interesting, since for a bit I said the same
thing to them.....also comparing them to Warrant or Bon Jovi. Their
music is in no way, nor has it ever been said to be, heavy metal.
Boa is mainstream pop, and they've never claimed to be anything else.
Good, bad or indifferent, that's how they write. That's their sound.
It may not be to the taste of most heavy metal enthusiasts, but their
sound and their professionalism have allowed them to work with
most, if not all, the national acts that have made the Boston circuit
in the past few years. I know a lot of local bands who would have liked to
have been in their boots on those occasions....and weren't, and may
    never be.

It's hard for me to remain objective, being married to the Stephen
(the drummer for this band), and I can see where I got a bit abusive
above (and I'm sorry) but one of the notes seemed "on the attack"
and I guess he/she pushed all the right buttons. I guess that's
    all I have to say.

(Jim, darling, you will DIE for this...mentioning my name so I
    HAD to write in here.......)

Pretty interesting perspective. Maybe they should try checkin out some
of the "scene's" in other places. Nowhere. From what I've heard, the
scene around the Boston area is far better then most places I've seen.

From what I understand, Jon Paul was getting married. Perhaps
he concluded that working in a music store is not the stuff
    of marriage-sustaining income.

Either way, he's a great kid. Helped me out many times. When
my GK head was struck by lightening (don't ask), he lent me
his (no, not the store's; HIS!). When I needed mics for a
recording project, he lent me his. When my SWR cab wasn't
working, Jon Paul called SWR and got the problem sorted out
without sending my cabinet off to the black hole of repair
in Boston. And the list goes on...

People who GAS about their customers are very rare, and Jon
Paul was one of them. I never hesitated to plunk my bucks
down at Wurligig's because I knew, even if I was paying a
bit more, that JP would stand behind what he sold me. I'm
glad to hear that kind of customer-oriented ethics will be
applied to the real estate business, where it is sorely
    needed.
