452.0. "Voivod" by USCTR1::KGALLANT (Diamond shinin' bright in the rain) Mon May 14 1990 19:45

Hmmm... Doing a dir/title=voivod didn't come up with a topic
for these dudes. So what better way is there than to start
with an article from Rip Magazine.

Copied without permission from the July issue under "Gig
    	of the Month."

Call it metalpsychedlicfunk. Hats off to the twisted, beautiful
mind that put these three together! Each has made a seriously
loud dent in the wheezing metalscene in their own way, but
on the same bill in one night? It becomes the prize even noted
in every kid's ticket-stub scrapbook. Amazing what kind of
mind-trips music can take on you.

...Headliners Voivid? In a word, BIG. "Nothingface" is one
of the best albums of the year, but is a lot of music to
digest live. I preferred "Tornado" and "Tribal Convictions"
from 'Dimension Hatross' and "Ravenous Medicine" from
'Killing Technology' but their tribute to Syd Barrett on
"Astronomy Domine" is the ultimate. The crowd, somewaht thinner
than at the evening's start, seemed hypnotized by Snake during
"The Unknown Knows," "Missing Sequences" and "Into My
Hypercube" (Break out those Larry Niven sci-fi novels!) A
bright fluorescent light show and very loud monitors (especially
on Away's drum kit) made for a great, if long set. Not a
movie to see twice, but you're glad you saw it all the same.

You got a reply at last! I got Nothing Face last night,so i haven`t
been able to fully digest it. On first impressions,i thought it
was one of the most original and wacky albums i`ve heard in a long
long time.Definetly the product of warped imaginations!!

I`ll definelty be checking out their other albums

I finally brought "Nothingface" with me yesterday, and list-
ened to it on the way home. Very strange, and very Pink Floyd-
ish instrumentally. The lyrics could have been alot better and
    	more intelligible.

I LOVE the intro to "The Unknown Knows"!! Starts out with a
VERY bassy rumble effect [get ready to "clear out" your ears
a couple times during this!!], and then when the guitar kicked
in ... it scared me so much I almost went through the f***ing
    	roof of the car!!
