| Me, I've heard "Digital Dictator" from their previous album and it was
ok. I've heard the new one is very heavy in old Metal Church style.
I'll check it.

399.3 | new album ok | KETJE::VLASIU | | Tue May 22 1990 04:50 | 18 |
| I just listened the first time, yesterday evening, Vicious Rumors' last CD (it
has no name).
It is heavy, the voice is fine, instrumentals are ok. The background vocals
have nothing special. The album has 10 songs which are all good except the
second (World Church) and the last (Axe and smash) which are commercial to my
taste. The first comparison which comes to my mind is that they play like
some mellower Metal Church. But they have not the wildness and anger of Metal
Church.
The best tracks are for me:
"Don't wait for me" and "On the edge" (both very Metal Church),
"Ship of fools" (slower and excellent), "Down to the temple" and "Hellraiser".
They have guitar solos on most of the tracks.
All in all my impression is good but I have to listen it again before it may
enter my favourite list. I have to avoid that I listened it after Metallica's
"Ride the lightning" (wow! what energy and precision!) and Titan Force
(one class higher in composing and complexity).

399.6 | some arrangements are even a bit like Queensryche | DPE::STARR | SRV......I can't believe you're gone.... | Sat Jan 19 1991 12:21 | 7 |
| Recently picked this up, and I agree with the previous notes - sorta like
Metal Church, at least that's the closest comparison I can think of. The
vocals, at times, remind me of Dio when he was with Sabbath. Pretty good
overall - "On The Edge" is the best hard track, while "Ship of Fools" is
a good slower one.

399.7 | two suggestions | KETJE::VLASIU | | Tue Jan 22 1991 03:50 | 10 |
| Alan, as you like also Wild Dogs you should check Meliah Rage's "Solitary
solitude". It's as heavy as Vicious Rumors but the vocals are much more in the
Wild Dogs category (powerful in the midrange). Vicious Rumors recalls
Queensryche also for me in few songs (i.e. "Ship of fools", and the voice is
also recalling QR).
Sanctuary's "Into the mirror black" is also a mixture of QR and Metal Church
styles and should please people which like Vicious Rumors (less immediate than
Vicious Rumors).

| Vicious Rumor's last album "Welcome to the ball" received good critics.
I've heard a bit of it and it's close to original Metal Church style.
The singer is the same as on the previous album.

That was their previous album (and you are right, it's an excellent one). They
released a new one, called "Welcome to the ball", few weeks ago.

| I heard a bit of each song (11) on WttB. It's as good as the previous at
least. Even a bit heavier. It's now on my buy list.

399.14 | Welcome to the Ball | KETJE::VLASIU | | Tue Oct 29 1991 10:41 | 11 |
| I've listened this weekend Vicious Rumors' "Welcome to the Ball". This album
confirms their previous success. It is heavy and punchy just like early Metal
Church (first album) and Carl Albert has an excellent voice with tough and
smoother sides.
The album contains 11 songs of which the best has to be, for me, "Abandonned"
(the heaviest of all also). It really kicks heavy. All the album is well
balanced and those who liked the previous album, will surely like this one
(the singer is the same also).
Recommended !

The other day I picked up 'Welcome to the Ball', and my opinion
is... It is a very good album... I think Metal Church is about
as close as you can get for a simalarity. Good guitar work,
and the singer goes well with the music. He sings, not growl.
Very good over all, a good heavy album....(Not quite like
Meliah Rage though... Rage is heavier, and darker.)
