294.0. "Shark Island" by 52494::LALLI (Didier - BCE Valbonne - DTN 828.5423) Thu Feb 15 1990 03:52

I didn't find anything about them in here. As they are getting very famous in
France these days, so here are a few details.

Members :

	Spencer Sercomber (guit)
	Richard Black (voc)
	Greg Ellis (drum)
	Chris Heilmann (bass)

They exist for about 10 years (at least Sercombe+Black). They came up with a 1st
LP called "Alter Ego" under the name Sharks in 1982. Then in 1986 with
"S'cool Bus" with band name Shark Island. Finally their recent (1989)
"Law Of The Order" is their masterpiece. They are covering "The Chain" from
Fleetwood Mac in that album. Other tunes are "Bad for each other", "why should
i believe", "Paris calling", "Get some strange", "ready or not"

They claim they are much better than Warrant.

I can't believe nobody heard them. I've heard again this ballad called
"Why Should I believe", and it's very good. I thought it was Skid Row at the
begining. It's for sure as good as "I remember". Same type.

I just got "Law of the order" this weekend after listening the songs "Somebody's
falling" and "The chain". This band rocks ! I never heard Warrant, so I can't
compare with Shark Island. This album sounds a little bit in between Tesla,
Aerosmith and early Bonjovi and is really excellent. I think there are good
expectations for them.
The music is melodic but also punchy and with much energy. They are all fine in
the band, the sound is fine and all 10 songs are to be listened.
Recommended.

294.4Might be worth checking out.RAVEN1::KROBINSONI'm just a media trained parasite.Sat May 04 1991 19:1810
I am surprised nobody else has checked into this album/group. The
reason I checked them out is because, one day last week I watched the
movie "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure" again; and I thought to
myself, the music in here sounds pretty good. Well I caught some of the
credits at the end and a good many of them were done by a group called
Shark Island. Also if I am not mistaken didn't one of the members of
this band join the new band Contraband. Has anybody else checked them
out yet? From what Sorin said it sounds pretty good.

This is really a great album. For anyone who likes the likes of the
Scorpions, Hurricane, etc, Shark Island are a treat. I still stick it
in the tape from time to time, even though my current tastes are a
    little more heavy.

    Re. few last

I also re-listen "Law of the order" quite often. I still like it quite
much. It is melodic but the (high) energy is also there and most of
all, the song writing is very good.
