I saw their LIVE in 1987 ( after "FAHRENHEIT" was released ).

I like Steve Lukather very much. He is a one of my favourite five
guiterists (Ritchie, Jimmy Page, Steve howe, David Gilmore and He).
His sound is very solid, exiting and dramatic.

My favourites are "Child's Anthem", "Hold the line",
"Till the end", "Africa" .... and so on.

"Girl Goodbye" (or maybe "Goodbye Girl") from the 1st album was
intense ! I bought the album when it was first released and still
drag it out every now and then.

I think my favorite song by Toto is "English Eyes". The organ in
this song is excellent! Lately they've gone to a more jazzy sound
especially in "Farenheit". Another good one was off "The Seventh
One", called "Stay Away From My Heart". Linda Ronstadt sang with
the new lead singer on that one.

Yeah, these guys really bug me. I got hooked on "Hold The Line"
way back around '78 ? and ever since I bought that first album,
I've become increasingly more frustrated with their output.

I mean "when they really want to" they can raise
quite a storm (Lukather can really belt out some hot licks)
, but in their case - the real bucks come from session work,
so in the end I guess that can try whatever the hell they feel
like and if it sells fine....if it doesn't...well there's
    always the next album.

IMO, what we are left with is generally 10 songs, 3 of which
kick some butt, 2 are so-so, and the rest are either jazz, funk
or music for your grandmother to clean her glasses to.

I still have the first and fourth albums and assorted tracks from
the others (generally the more Lukather orientated songs).

Of their releases to date, which album do you think leans more towards
the rockier end of their spectrum ?

TOTO only rocked on the first two IMHO. After that it got furthere
and fewer between. I agree that Steve Lukather gat lay down some
    great guitar work!

Wow - someone else knows this song?!?!? Its also my favorite Toto tune, but I
didn't know anyone else even heard of it!

Lukather is a *monster* guitar player! Unfortunately, he doesn't always get to
show off his chops on the Toto albums.

Great (slick) production jobs, too!

TOTO is one of my favorite bands. I saw them live at CLUB CASINO
on Hampton Beach and they blew me away. I was sitting right at the
stage ( thanks to john mover ) 1st table center. One of the tightest
bands I have ever seen. If your ever in the L.A. area check out
a club called the HOT POTATO, Steve Lukather and some of the oter
boys jam there alot and they put on one awsome show.

Re: .5 I'd definitely have to say the first album was the "rockier"
(sp.?) of almost all their stuff. Gotta go back and check "Hydra"
though, think that had some good tunes on it. IMHO, I think their
downfall came when TOTO IV hit the stands. Seems like after that,
everything had to be prophetic and poplike. Alas, junk radio wounds
another excellent band. Notice the word "wounds", as I think they
have some surprises in store. Nothing certain, just a feeling...

Is there any truth to the story that "TOTO" is the main toilet
manufacturer in Japan and that the band had to do something...
er rather quickly about the advertising campaign to avoid an
embarressing comparison being made ie change their name to
"Steve Lukather and Lavatory Brushes" or something at least
    as ambiguous....

TOTO are touring Europe, and they'll be hitting my place 1st of October. I'm
trying to decide if I should go.

Any comments, on their recent shows ?

Also I've heard they've got a new singer from SouthAfrica, was he hired for this
tour or was he already singing in their latest work ?

Any suggestions ?

Didier

Apparently yes, but still nothing prevent them from making a concert in
wheelchairs :-) That's why I'd like some recent impressions from people.

If you want to see some real musicians play some awsome music then
I would go !!! If you hear of them coming up near the New England
area could you please let me know, I would not want to miss them.

TOTO= A bunch of guys that might be to old looking to be played
on MTV, But they are awsome musicians, put on one of the best
sounding shows you will ever hear, and they have KiLLeR GrOoVs.

TOTO are apparently recording a new album, although vocalist Jean
Michel-Byron has supposedly left the band and guitarist Steve Lukather
    is handling all vocals.

Well "Kingdom Of Desire" is out and what can I say after only one or
two listens....well, it's probably the hardest album "Toto"
    have ever put out.

Of the 12 tracks on offer, at least 9 of them lean heavily on
Steve Lukather's guitar work, which for a change sounds way up in
the mix. Sure, there's a couple of "typical" Toto-esque ballads as
always, but they're tracklisted around 9/10 on the album and don't
really detract from the general upbeat/power sound.

As previous notes have indicated, Steve also handles lead vocals -
I've no complaints in that dept, his voice suits the harder edged
    music.

I guess you could almost call this one a psuedo "Steve Lukather" Band
album and I for one, am not complaining one little bit!!

If you like Mr Lukather's licks - try it out!
