2.0. "Conference Rules" by MILKWY::SLABOUNTY (Raging Slab) Wed Dec 13 1989 17:34
Please read (and heed) these rules:
1) Use of profanity
The use of profanity will be tolerated, as long as:
a) the word(s) aren't used in a sexual content
b) the word(s) are strategically 'starred out', like
'f*ck' or 'sh*t'
c) the word(s) aren't used to demoralize/degrade any-
one in the conference, like 'f*ck you', etc.
Abbreviations like 'WTF' and 'BFD' will also be tolerated,
'coz they don't actually mean anything as they stand.
Any issues on the use of profanity will be handled by
the moderators.
2) Etiquette
Please DO NOT speak badly of anyone in the conference for
any reason whatsoever. If something needs to be said to
someone for a note/reply entered then we'd appreciate it
if it was taken off-line. If the problem can't be resolved
then contact one or more of the moderators, and we'll take
over from there. Use SHOW MOD to view the list of moder-
ators of this conference, and I believe SEND/MEMBER will
send a message to all moderators at the same time.
Please keep "Valuing Differences" in mind when writing in
NOTES. Digital is comprised of people from many differ-
ent cultures, all who are just as much a part of the com-
pany as you are. NO racial, ethnic, or sexual preference
jokes/remarks will be tolerated ... and replies containing
same will be deleted without warning.
Also, derogatory remarks about bands/performers/etc. are
not welcome unless they're backed by legitimate reasons
and/or facts. An example is "XXX sucks!!"
There should be no discussion of illegal activities in this
(or any) conference either. Notes containing same will be
deleted.
This includes, but is not limited to: the abuse of living
creatures, street racing, violence.
3) Basic NOTES hints
Please check the directories in note 7.* before entering
a new topic to avoid duplication. The directories will
be updated on a semi-but-not-too-incredibly-regular basis
so as to reflect deleted notes, etc.
Try to stay as close to the topic of the base note as pos-
sible ... any side discussions should be carried over to
an already-existing note on said subject, or transferred
to a new topic. If a side discussion starts and no one
else has said anything, please inform one or more of the
moderators and:
a) The topic will be temporarily write-locked
b) The replies will be moved to an appropriate topic
c) The original topic will be re-opened for discussion
Use good grammar when writing your notes/replies, 'coz if
words are missing it makes entries hard to read. Please
don't reply to someone just to correct spelling mistakes:
no one's perfect. It's also a waste of disk space.
Use as few form feeds as possible due to the fact that some
system links are slow and this takes time to go through.
When entering a new note, PLEASE spell the name of the band,
performer, or whatever correctly, and PLEASE don't skip a
space between every character in the name:
Two examples of this are *^- B O N J O V I -^* (or however
it was entered) and H E N D R I X. Doing this makes a title
search useless. Spelling mistakes and/or 'useless spaces'
in note titles will be corrected by a moderator.
If you're a temp/contractor accessing the confer-
ence through a 'generic account' (example - abc::secretary)
please identify yourself with a first/last name.
[Notice that all of these 'helpful hints' and 'etiquette
hints' apply to practically every conference ... not just
H_M. Please do your best to follow these guidelines and
NOTES will be a wonderful place to spend free time.]
4) Discussions/debates
Any discussions and/or debates should be carried out in a
professional manner. Name calling, threats to someone's
family members and/or pets will not be tolerated. 'Your
mother wears army boots' is only acceptable if said mother
actually served in the army. (And please don't confuse
two armed services ... be specific).
Please keep to the subject of the debate/discussion, and
all comments should be relevant to the subject at hand.
5) Who is Heavy_Metal and who isn't?
Topic 83 is titled "Which bands are Heavy_Metal". Please
use this note to discuss notes in the conference that you
feel are out-of-place, rather than cluttering the band
notes with garbage.
6) Concert tickets
The sale of concert tickets is allowed in this conference,
'coz we realize that most other conferences don't allow it
at all to avoid problems.
One request, though - scalping tickets is illegal (selling
them for more than what u paid). Any advertised price that
is deemed "above original purchase price" will be sent back
to the seller. Hint: if you're gonna sell 'em for more
than what u paid for 'em, just ask to be contacted by MAIL
for the price. Keeps the conference out of trouble.
7) Garbage note (note 99)
It should be used for limited chit-chat between noters, but
not to the point of a 2-person conversation with 2 people
involved (which would be better suited to MAIL instead).
Being that this is the Heavy_Metal conference, we'd like to
think that the majority of the notes/replies entered will
pertain to the subject of Heavy_Metal. If you're not going
to talk about Heavy_Metal then please add RITZ::CONVERSATION
to your notebook and gab all u want there.
8) Who's gigging where
Being a Heavy_Metal conference, there are bound to be some
bands appearing at area clubs, etc. Announcements of same
are welcome, but please don't mention any kind of "donation"
or cover charge required to get into the show. Many times,
bands don't make a whole lot off these shows ... but that
(unfortunately) doesn't change the fact that Digital Equip-
ment Corporation forbids using their resources for business-
es outside of the company.
Basically, just mention that you'll be appearing at so-and-
so ... and post an age requirement (if any).
Thanks.
To sum it all up:
Do the right thing.
The moderators are responsible for the conference and the
content of same, and therefore have the final say in any
and all of the above. All issues will be handled fairly.
If u don't think that they're handled fairly, please let
us know and we will try to come to an agreement.
Thank you,
The mods

Yer pushin it pretty bad including the first letter of each word. The
*correct* way to put that is still "Xxx Xxxxxx".
