357.1 | It's worth listening | KETJE::VLASIU | Try with a bigger hammer | Fri Dec 08 1989 11:18 | 13 |
| I'm back again after repeated listening of "Oliver Magnum" and I can say that
those guys are surely one of the very best new bands of 89.
The lead singer is very fine and all the rest of the band follows with a
heavier approach than Queensryche. Sometimes they use the bass and guitar (only
one) the same way as Black Sabbath. The production could have been a little
better (drums recording) but this is only their start and they seem to have
much energy.
For me, who finds the time long until the next Queensryche this is a good
medicine. I don't compare in any way QR and OM but I just say they are playing
the same "category" of heavy metal (Fates Warning also).
They surely deserve a listening.

Glad you put this note in, Sorin. This band KICKS! Now to go back
and listen to it another 600 times, just to get used to it! Pray
tell, sir, what other groups would you recommend?

357.3 | It is never late | KETJE::VLASIU | Try with a bigger hammer | Thu Dec 21 1989 08:48 | 9 |
| I'm glad that someone else likes it. Spaceknight, don't worry you'll
like it more and more as it will grow on you. I'm listening it
practically every day at home or in the car. It's addictive.
As you wanted a recommendation, personally I found Fates Warning's
"Perfect Symmetry" and Annihilator's "Allison Hell" (take care this one
is VERY INTENSE but also precise, good if you enjoy Metallica). Fates
Warning is also the same style with Oliver Magnum and Queensryche.

357.4 | memory refresh | 49711::VLASIU | | Fri Feb 23 1990 08:32 | 10 |
| It's surprising that such a good band has been heard only by 2 people
in this conference. Aren't they distributed in US (they are from US) ?
I'll just say that Oliver Magnum plays pure metal in the best
tradition and that stands clearly as one of my favourite bands
(Queensryche, Metal Church, Fates Warning, Accept, Helloween,
Annihilator, Metallica ..). I even prefer them now to Helloween and
Fates Warning. They have a strong composing talent. Make pleasure to
yourself (if you like the same bands) and try them.

RE -1
I've never seen an Oliver Magnum release here in Massachusetts.
I looked for it after seeing this note, but it's nowhere to be
found.

357.6 | bad distribution | 49711::VLASIU | | Tue Feb 27 1990 04:34 | 7 |
| Aparently the album is badly distributed, because I found it in a shop
which is not my usual HM shop. In my usual shop (HM oriented) it is not yet
distributed and a vendor asked me to bring it to have a listening. He
readed also good critics about but has never seen it. I'll add tomorow
the identification of the CD in this note.

357.10 | The ocean is too big | KETJE::VLASIU | | Fri May 04 1990 10:44 | 8 |
| Sure it's better to listen before. For a check, the very best tracks to
listen are the first (Syster Cybele) and the last (Prelude to death) on
the CD. It's sad there is the Atlantic between our offices, if not you
could listen a sample of it (I know swimming but the ocean is just too
big). Don't take in consideration the CD leaflet which is not the best
ideea.

357.12 | What titles are available via ordering?? | SUBSYS::MSOUCY | | Fri Feb 23 1996 05:35 | 20 |

Ok, I'll bite....
What discs are available? I will have to order anything (if they even
show up in the catalog)....I hear there is a place in Nashua that has
or can get hard-to-find discs...forget the name of the place though.
I have a Newbury Comics just across the border in Salem NH (I live not
even 5 minutes away...depending on the traffic lights) and I haven't
ordered anything in a while. Time to go and check their catalog! I have
been trying to catch Last Crack/Magnum/Crimson Glory in there but none
so far, I just got ahold of Paradise Lost "Draconian Times" which I
think is excellent there a week or so ago...Sometimes I wander in there
and I find something I was looking for, ie Magellan - Impending
Ascension, most other times I don't....I want QR - The Warning, but I
will probably have to order it as I haven't seen it in the store in a
while....
