DJ's was in Colorado Springs. It was a 3.2 heavy metal bar. Some
of the bands that appeared there was: Molly Hatchet, Great White,
MSG, Alcatraz, Loverboy, Axe, Anthrax, Helix, and more that I can't
think of. Jag Panzer (ever heard of them?) useta play there a lot.
The place closed down when they changed the drinking age to 21.
       <insert sentimental music here>
I loved that place and remember many a night getting hammered and
jamming to whatever band was there, talking to the Snatch and her
friends and playing quarters. I especially remember on amateur <sp>
night when D.Zaster area made their first (and last )appearance
there when we threw beer on the crowd and Zoo kicked his amp and
nearly started a fire. That was one wild place!!!

Actually if you're ever in C.S. you oughta check out O'Furry's or
Meadow Muffins, both are wilder crowds, no cover, 49 cent drafts
and $1.99 long Island Iced Teas. The only places in town outside
of CIty Lights that you can still see people trying to dance to
AC/DC. Most other places are for picking up women. (not that I'm
against that, sometimes I just wanna rock out with some friends
    and kill beers!!)

and one night I went down to Meadow Muffins and another place across
the street (kinda diagonal, if I remeber correctly thru my alcoholic
    haze) Isn't that O'furry's ?

Anyhow, Muffin's was the gnads. $.99 mixed drinks, and way-cool

    re: Colorado Springs night life...

Meadow Muffins has been really dead the last few times I've been
there. Don't know what the problem is.

City Lights has some decent R&R and HM bands, but the drinks are
expensive and there's almost always a cover.

For a C&W bar, Cowboys is pretty good. Not to my taste though.

This area has very little to offer me because I don't dance and
I don't womanize. I like to watch good live bands. There are very
few local bands that appeal to me and VERY few clubs that even bother
    having live bands.

Rats- I would've thought the Springs would have a little more
nightlife than what I'm hearing. Syracuse, NY isn't exactly the
Big Apple either but we have a decent amount of options as far as
seeing live bands. The Lost Horizon ( also known as the Lost Whore
Zone) just had Bad English last Sunday night, this Thursday is Blue
Oyster Cult, Trevor Rabin in two weeks, and numerous HM or near
HM bands five days a week! The place holds 1200. Syracuse has at
least five other bars that ROCK and numerous country, blues, and
jazz clubs. Anyone that complains about not having much nightlife
here ( for a city of 350,000) can't read the weekly "New Times".

I play out in a band and don't know if I could handle living in
a city where a decent band can't get steady gigs. My band never
travels more than an hour out of town and we're booked steady.
Do people in the Springs travel up to Denver a lot to catch a
    good bar show?

    > Rats- I would've thought the Springs would have a little more
    >nightlife than what I'm hearing.

There are a few clubs, but we're talking like 50-100 seats max, except
for one place (City Lites) which if I remember right, seats about 250.
They have a few national recording artists play around, but nobody real
    big.

As far as local bands, things are maybe a little better then they were
when I wrote that. There seem to be several bands that play around on
a regular basis at this point.

My band is still working on getting enough material together to play
clubs so we haven't explored how easy/difficult it is to get hired yet.
Check back in a couple of months...

None of these clubs will hire bands that play originals (as far as I
can tell). Skip Turnbaughs' band Hydra plays pretty much exclusively in
Denver because of this. I'm sure he could tell ya a lot more, as he's
played around town here for several years.

The real deficiency in my eyes is the lack of clubs that will hire a
hard rock/metal band. There's only a couple that I know of (City
    Lites, The Gardens).

    > I play out in a band and don't know if I could handle living in
    >a city where a decent band can't get steady gigs. My band never

Sounds really nice... I guess people are more into live entertainment
    there.

Should they ever want to, that's about the only choice.

> They have a few national recording artists play around, but nobody real
> big.

Unfortunately this is true....a lot of the up and coming acts
get around here, but very few of the already hot acts....we
just don't have a big enough place for them to play....

> The real deficiency in my eyes is the lack of clubs that will hire a
> hard rock/metal band. There's only a couple that I know of (City
> Lites, The Gardens).

Screaming Elrods, Meadow Muffins (occasionally), The
	 Cavalcade (sp?) in Pueblo.....

I think what needs to be remembered here, that even in Mass,
people drive 1 hour+ to see a show......you can easily drive
an hour here and see anything you want in Denver....and an
even bigger selection in Boulder. The problem is that people
back east are used to commuting, we aren't.

Regardless of what people think, Colorado Springs is not a thriving
	 major metropolis.

One of the major problems with the Springs that I see, as
Greg stated, is that no one will hire you if all you play are
originals...all the clubs here vie for the crowds, and they
feel you can't get a crowd without the popular music....

Meadow Muffins? I've never heard of a hard rock/metal band playing
there, I just can't see it.

Screaming Elrods, they're sure pushing themselves with the hype. I
have my doubts that they'll survive very long. There have been like
five different clubs in that same building over the past couple of
years. The bottom line is that it's in a pretty nasty location and (on
the outside anyway) looks like a dive. Anyone actually been there?
    How is it?

Perhaps we should carry on the discussion from 99.lastely here ??

I noticed in -.1 that Greg would rather travel to Denver than Pueblo.
Dood, as I've been raving about all weekend to ya, Cavalcade kicks
major fanny !! I think you should come there Thursday night and see
for yourself. :)

Cavalcade (IMHO) is better than The Gardens and Boomers and Rack-n-roll
put together. Quite a crowd, and a classy/clean place too. Too bad they only
do metal night on Thursday. A four nighter down there would be a nice gig!

He was commenting on your use of quotes to (seemingly) imply that
Christian Metal is not real metal.

Anyway, I know of one band that our sound dood plays with/runs sound
for. They don't play on the "circuit" though. I think they do specialty
shows and a lot church gigs and stuff. They're busy, I know that.

I don't know of any Christian HM bands out here. I see ads
occasionally on music store bulletin boards, but I sure don't know
where the bands (if they ever get together) play.

FWIW-The Zimbricks played their last show last night at the Clubhouse.
We went as a favor to the singer because the music was way alternative
but I enjoyed some of it. The alternative scene is doing good with
plenty of freakshows on display walking around.
All I can say is...The Clubhouse has a cool pooltable and the
Headbangers had full rights to it all night. 8)

Greg: When the Zimbricks started out they were more jingle/jangles
stuff and then they started getting a following...The some of the guys
in the band started thinking they needed to sound "different" ala:
Soundgarden/Nirvana. Which in fact made them sound generic and Seattle
sounding. Mike asked Pose what he thought and he said he like em'
before they changed. Mike thought about it for along time and decieded
he did too but hte rest of the guys wanted to stay the way they're
going. So Mike left....He's really talanted and probably doesn't need a
band. I guess Mike and Pose really respect each other opinion?
