Definately Rush: Moving Pictures is the #1
album.
Best new band, huh? Too hard to say. It would
be one of: Queensryche, Leatherwolf, Yngwie,
Wild Dogs, Icon or several others ...

| Totally subjective, but here are some of my 80's albums that I'll still be
listening to far into the 90's:
(in no particular order)
Van Halen - all those with DLR
AC/DC - Back in Black
Queensryche - Operation:Mindcrime
Tesla - Mechanical Resonance
Iron Maiden - Live After Death
Back Sabbath - Heaven and Hell (I think this was in the 80's)
Def Leppard - Pyromania
Deep Purple - Perfect Strangers
Guns and Roses - Appetite For Destruction
Fastway - All Fired Up
Fastway - Fastway
Ozzy Osbourne - all three with Randy
Gary Moore - Corridors of Power (recent addition!)
Motorhead - No Remorse (great compilation!)
I'm sure there's more, but that's off the top of my head...

686.9 | Def Leppard.. | FXADM::SECURITY | I think the clock is slow.. | Thu Oct 05 1989 21:29 | 9 |
|
What about Def Leppard? They're the band of the 80's. They
went through so much, and they still crank. They're more popular
now, than before(when Rick allen had his cut off). With most
bands, they would probably give up. Other 80's bands would
be: Metallica, Iron Maiden, Motley Crue and Ozzy..

| It's really too hard to say who the best of the 80's was.
I do have to say that a lot of credit should be given to Bon Jovi. If
you recall back to about Slippery When Wet, you will remember how that
band took off like a rocket. When "You Give Love A Bad Name" hit the
radio and video charts, they were just everywhere. It was also right
after that if you remember that metal really got a kick in the a*s,
because it's everywhere now.
I think the metal band of the '80's should be Bon Jovi, not because I
like them, but because they gave metal the kick it needed to become
widely accepted and widely popular.

686.12 | Motley Crue's glory days | RICKS::MINARDI | hear me go off! | Fri Oct 06 1989 11:04 | 8 |
| I dunno, I think back to when Motley Crue became really popular
in like, 83? They had a wicked impact on HM, and also were
really responsible for helping out HM's bad-ass, renegade, omigod-
what-are-our-kids-listening-to reputation, for which I'm thankful.
They really shocked America, and what band from the 80's has
been so widely imitated, until Guns N Roses came to be??

686.13 | | HAZEL::STARR | Always took candy from strangers... | Fri Oct 06 1989 11:21 | 9 |
| Well, Def Leppard's 'Pyromania' selling 5 milion copies came along long before
Bon Jovi. And lets not forget how big Twisted Sister and Quiet Riot were back
in about '83 - they were the beginnings of the resurgence of metal....
But then again, Bon Jovi sure helped a *lot* of those poseur bands get signed!
Oh, and let's not forget MTV as a VERY big factor!

re -1
You and a lot of other people in this file. :-)
I don't care what you classify them as, I like 'em.
Now to stick to the topic.
I think Def Leppard had a great impact. How many other bands
would wait 4-5 years for their drummer to come back after losing
an arm!!?? They must be a very tight band and care alot about
each other and have great respect for his performance. Likewise,
they would turn out some good tunes.

| I have to agree. Tull has certainly put out a lot of good albums
this decade :
Recording Best Track(s)
1) Broadsword and the Beast Beastie, Seal Driver, Broadsword
2) Under Wraps Saboteur, Nobody's Car
3) 20 Years of J.T. Overhang
4) Crest of a Knave Budapest
5) Rock Island Kissing Willie
There's no doubt that J.T. will be considered by future musicologists
as the ensemble that encapsulates the styles of the last four
centuries.

Both Pyromania and Hysteria rank in my top ten.
Other biggies were Jane's Addiction and Metallic.
I'd vote for Bon Jovi on their Slippery album but sadly enough, they
fell into the same trap as U2 did: they took their fame too seriously.

I was surprised that both Maiden AND Metallica had two albums
in the top 10. I am also a little surprised to see Kill Em All
as no. 1, only because of where it placed on the Rolling Stone top
100.
I, of course, agree with Kill Em All's standing!
