653.0. "Sanctuary" by GLOWS::SIMPSON (Why are you still up?) Wed Sep 06 1989 19:07

Well, well. Just picked up a new album by a group called
    Sanctuary. Rundown goes like this:

    Warrel Dane - Vocals
Lenny Rutledge - Guitar, Backing Vocals
Sean Blosl - Guitar, Backing Vocals
    Jim Sheppard - Bass
Dave Budbill - Drums, Backing Vocals

Still listening to the album, I'll give a review later. Two more
things, one Dave Mustaine appears on this album for a solo, and
the song he solos on is "White Rabbit".

Yeah...the one written by Grace Slick! This should be interesting.

I just got that one on tape ... I'm not really impressed
    	with 'em.

I'm not sure why ... they kinda bore me.

This is one of the better thrash metal bands and they deserve more
    recognition.

I just had the occasion to listen (not completely) their new "Behind
the mirror black" album. I did'nt knew them before. The album is very
heavy in the same way Metal Church was/is, but the singer seems a
little bit too light, there is no very heavy drumming (Metal Church..)
and they have a tendency to long songs without adding fantasy.
BUT this is only the first impression of an incomplete audition in a
shop (on bad headphones) so I will not say anything bad. Retain only
that they are very heavy. Metal Church I like in both formulas (old and
new). About Sanctuary's "Behind the mirror black" I've read good
critics. Someone else may give a better review.

Here I'm back with a better review.. I listened this time the CD at home few
times already. They are somewhat like a combination of Queensryche and Metal
Church. The singer is fine and the compositions also. All the songs are equally
good. Recommended.

653.5My review of the first album...MPGS::HOWESHold your heartbeat in your hand.Wed Jan 22 1992 20:1722

I descided to review a few of the groups whos tapes I have had
	for a while.

Well the first release by these guys, the one produced by
Dave Mustaine, is the only one I have.

IMO, the music is not bad, it kinda has a Megadeth feel to it.
At least to me it does, but the lead singer is aweful, and does
not go with the music at all. He sounds like Rob Halaford to
	me.

The lead singer OVER sings. He tries to sing high and hold notes
for a long time on every word, and it just doesn't work.

I you can ignore singers, or you like a guy screaming (ala Rob H.)
then pick up this album, otherwise stay away from it...
