Conference napalm::heavy_metal

    I saw most of the concert on SKY One last night but had to tape
    the Scorpions & Bum Jovi.  I will watch it tonight and give MHO.

    Did Motley Crue do any of their new stuff??
    
    I listened to most of it and the sets seemed short.  I missed
    some Crue and Ozzy but I thought it sounded good from what I heard.
    

    I agree that the show wasn't all that great up until the Scorpions
    came on.   I also enjoyed the Crue and Bon Jovi.  Ozzy didn't sound
    that bad!  All in all I guess it was worth watching.  
    
    

I didn't get to see the show, just listen to it on the radio. Skid Row was 
basically bogus. Cinderella sounded better than I thought they would, except 
the vocals were real muddy. Ozzy was pretty awful, IMO - the mix was just a 
mess - you couldn't really hear anything!

Motley Cr�e was also a lot better than I expected, and this is where the sound 
quality began to improve a lot. The Scorpions were definitely the best band of 
the night - they sounded killer! And Klaus's voice was just incredible - it 
really put the other "singers" to shame, because he is SO much better than the 
average HM screamer. Bon Jovi suffered from Jon's weak voice - he (as usual) 
was really hurting. And the mix for BJ wasn't that good, either. 

The jam at the end was real sloppy, but I guess the spirit was there, and 
that's what counts.

BTW - I can't believe how *stupid* some of these bands are! All night long, 
they kept yelling at the crowd to "Get up out of your seats" and "Sing along" 
and "Clap your hands", etc. BUT THEY WERE YELLING IT IN ENGLISH!!! Don't they 
realize that probably only about 1% of the audience could understand what they 
were saying??? (Seems like Klaus Meine was the only one who bothered to learn 
the language, or at least some key phrases.)

    Klaus and the boys play in Russia a lot, so I am sure he knows some
    Russian.  The performance by the Scorps says a lot about them. 
    They kicked butt (or so I hear) during the Monsters tour, and they
    kicked butt in Russia.

    	As an ex-Russian tourist, I can tell you that the Russians speak
    more English than you think.  Especially the kids.  Probably about 75%
    of the kids speak fairly fluent, and those were the people at the show.
    	Not much new music was played by anyone mostly because most of the 
    people who had the good fortune to get a rare American tape, chances
    are it was an older one.
    	As far as the concert, I heard it on the radio, and I thought it 
    stunk for the most part.  The Scorpions, I have to agree were the best
    act.  Followed by Bon Jovi, Motley Crue, Ozzy, and a mess between 
    Cinderella, Skid Row, and Gorky Park.  Did you hear the keyboards on
    Ozzy's Crazy Train?  I almost puked.  
    	Oh, and it was Jason Bonham on drums for the jam at the end.

                scorps definately  ruled the event, both in sound
                and performance.   bon  jovi  came next though it
                was not even a  close  second place.  motley crue
                was awful, vince looked and  sounded  like he was
                tired and out of breath even  before  the  end of
                the  first  song.    Ozzy's voice kept  cracking,
                Cinderella [as much as I don't like their  music]
                was   better  than  both  the  previous  bands  I
                mentioned.     Gorky  and  Skid  Row  ...    ugh,
                horrible.  I  did  think it somewhat amusing when
                Cinderella was trying to  get  the  crowd to sing
                and  there was dead silence  when  it  was  their
                turn.  So he tried it  again,  but  turned to the
                camera before doing so and said, "This  is HIGHLY
                experimental."

    Most of what I had to say has already been said!  But, was it my
    imagination or did Richie Sambora's vocals sound better than JBJ.
    
    I was more than a little disappointed with BJ playing only 4 songs,
    and the abscence of JBJ during the jam at the end.  To me the MVP
    goes to The Scorpions & Richie Sambora.  It was good to see Jason
    Bohnam, but sadly he is never going to be the Drummer that his father
    was.(IMHO)

    Hey Bonzo, whenever I've seen BJ I've always been more impressed
    with Ritchie Sambora's vocals than JBJ.
