How about a note for SummerJam?

Let's have some reviews from a Heavy_Metal perspective.

(Well, from a H_M noters perspective_.

    	Some comments:

    		"Deceptive Resolution" kicked Roseanne-Barr-sized
*ss!! Who's this guy Kevin McDonough, and where's
he been hiding? He was great, and him and Buck
made up the best axe-team I've seen at any DEC
    		get-together!!

BUT, Buck's licks were 'hidden' in the mix too
    		often ... and I couldn't hear them.

"Sorry!" was good ... Alan, u impressed me. Good
song selection, and the music was good too. You've
got a good voice for an old man!

BUT, your guitar was WAY too loud ... I couldn't
hear the other guitarist until about 4 or 5 songs
into the set. And I also noticed that the bass got
a little too loud towards the end of the set.

"Scream" had my vote as the best band of the day
'til Buck/Kevin started wailin' away ... and now
I can't remember who was in the band.

Well, there was a lot of inexperience working against me at the show. First
off, I didn't set up the stage correctly. I couldn't hear my guitar at all
after I had to turn it down. I didn't even know it was out of tune until
someone had to come up and tell me! All I could hear were bass and drums (and
the vocals - the monitors were great!).

Also, I shoulda had the Les Paul handy right there, rather than somewhere
off-stage. Then there wouldn't have been that long tune-up time between songs.

I guess these are the things you learn by experience, eh?

But despite all that, I was real happy overall. It was sloppy, filled with
mistakes, and a total mess, but I had a BLAST!

Again, special note to Buck and Cheryle (both of whom I've already talked with
off-line), and their bands.

And thanx again to all those who showed up and stuck around until we played!

612.4This is it dudes...let's rock out!MARKER::BUCKLEYWicked rad guitar soundMon Jul 24 1989 18:206
    I loved Alan's guitar sound....it WAS rock n roll!

Loud, raw, out of tune, cutting, and nasty...reminded me of Slash, Lou
Reed, and Joe Strummers guitar sounds. You guys should do more punk
IMO! I think you need that sound, the other guy had a creamy
distortion, and the difference was great!

I thought the whole thing was awesome...

It was a real rush to come back home to Mass and see so many people
you hadn't seen in a while.

I thought that the keyboards in Foreplay/Long Time were awesome!!

As I said in MUSIC, I had a great time.

These DECJams are wonderful. I haven't missed one yet.

You get to associate faces and music with node names. And as
a player, it's just an incredible opportunity.

Think about it. Where else could you play absolutely whatever
you want? And because it's a one-shot thing and the sets are
only 40 minutes, you can do it on the side of your regular band.

It's like a break from the grind and a chance to play with some
other folks beside your regular gig (which I wish I had right now).

I just hope the decreasing attendence we've seen at each jam
doesn't continue and keep us from holding them.

I don't care if NOBODY shows up - I'll still be willing to play at a DECjam,
just for the reasons you listed in -.1 !!!

Maybe the reason nobody shows up, is because we play whatever we
    want.

Seems like all those club owners out there who insist that way play
Huey Lewis and Madonna tunes are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. Look what
    happens when you don't.

What I've noticed is that there is a direct relation of the
attendance to the DECjams as to the number of active noters
in Music. Many of the "old timers" of music have gone onto other
notesfiles, but don't support the DECjams by showing up. It
makes me sad that they can't set aside one afternoon to come.
I'm sure some of them really *were* busy, but............

I don't know what was really happening out that way, but it didn't seem
like this jam got quite as much "build up" in the Music notes file as a
lot of the other ones did.

I think this may have been because the people doing it were a bit more
experienced at it this time and didn't need so much interaction (could
be wrong on this, but that was my perception), which would normally be
a good thing (I'm sure it was for them). I think that the lack of
chit-chat in the file might have left people thinking that this jam
wasn't as big a thing, or maybe just didn't raise their anticipation
enough for them to remember to go.
