| Any diminished chord is sexual... I mean like we're talkin' lock up
the children because I'm playin' my guit, and you *know* what happens
when that happens. Especially when it's LOUD AND PROUD ala Marshall.
On another note... There are some tunes that I would rather play
the rhythm part on, just because it gets me so high...
Eye Of The Beholder is just like that.

I'm gonna stay out of this note 'coz all the chords bring
out 'frustration' in me due to the fact that I can't play
any of 'em.

| Diminished chords sexual???
I don't know about that...I mean, chord "sounds" and textures that
the mind attches to these tones are very subjective...
Ie, Vai always sez he associates modes with things like Mixo is a
happy, merry sound, like a carnival...Yngwie sez phrygian is dark, like
a castle, etc.
To me, Diminished is a melancoly type of sound...it reminds me of
sitting in a dark corner of an attic while the last rays of an autumn
sun beam in thru the window just before dusk...ie..the medium between
light and dark tones.
Tray playing this chord progression to see what I mean:
E- | B | E- | B | A- | E- | G#dim | G#dim (next inv.)|
Esus | E- | A- | E- ||
In this, the minor tonailty is quickly established with the Emin to B
major chord change (implies E harmonic minor). When you get to the
G#dim chord, it throws in the feeling I talked about above... its not
as dark a tonaility as the previous minor progression has established,
yet the chords don't really tell you if the progression will continue
minor, or modulate to a major tonailty. I fool you with the Esus4 to E
minor resolution (It goes back to minor!!), but your ear wanted to ear
the E major after that sus (an old Bach trick).

Of course! Why didn't *I* think of that!!!!

Sorry - I just got so lost there, I just had to laugh at myself!

| Oh, and by the way, being mostly a rhythm player, I have a tendency to like
very simple chords (especially since I don't know the difficult ones!).
Anyways, for some unknown reason, I have a tendency to really like Aminor
chords.....dunno why, I just do!

| There is another chord that gets me off...
It's found in "Breakin the silence" by Queensrche. I have no idea
what it is but it's a G something... Whoa. Watch it ladies.

| re: .0 Bm = sad
Hmm...I don't think of Bm as sad, but as kicking! Reminds me of "White
Wedding"...
re: .1 Dim = sexual
You must have sex on the brain, dude! I don't think of diminished
chords as sexual at all. (Come to think of it, I don't think of any
specific chords or keys as sexual...)
Personally, the key of F#m strikes me as being a very sad, thoughtful
key.
Also Bb seems kind of sad and bluesy to me. Probably because I'm used
to hearing lots of rock in A or B and not in between.
I think the way a scale or chord affects you is influenced a lot by
what you're accustomed to hearing and your musical background. I think
that someone that's studied music extensively, like Buck, will think
of a piece in a different way than a neophyte, like myself (but I'm
learning, and I *want* to learn!). Not that that diminishes the
feeling.

Diminished chords remind me of mystery - of the unknown.
I prefer Dm to Bm - its very moody.
Argumented chords remind me of women ;^)
