581.0. "Vandenberg" by ANT::SLABOUNTY (The word for today is legs ...) Wed Jun 28 1989 18:01

        What? No note on Vandenberg?

These guys have 3 albums out - complete discography:

        Vandenberg
        Heading for a Storm
        Alibi

Some good stuff on all of 'em, although the only one I can
think of right now is "Back on My Feet Again" off of their
self-titled album. Oh yeah, also "Time Will Tell" off of
        "Heading for a Storm".

Thanks to Mr. Labatt's (oops, I meant Mr. Reilly) for remind-
        ing me about these guys.

Saw these guys back with Ozzy several years ago.
Adrian was about the only highlight of the band
(if you can call that a highlight). They really
didn't do too much for me. Better than G&R
                though ... :')

                That's the Bozo ...

(look, the word Bozo appearing three times in one
                note!)

                Isn't that special ...

                it's getting late, Rob

Best thing about the Vandenberg albums was the fact that Adrian did
    the artwork I believe. Cool.
581.6Wait..t'ill the sh*t hits the fan!YUPPY::OHAGANBThu Jun 29 1989 09:1812
That first album was a killer. Check out "Lost in a city(?), Wait,
and Burning Heart". Has a very European sound to it (don't ask me
why, maybe it's the climate over here!!) and Vandenberg obviously
adhered to the Schenker school of melodic geetar playing.

As for the second album, I only liked "Friday night". Still, good
    band though.

    >> Has a very European sound to it (don't ask me why

Could it have something to do with the fact that Adrian Vandenberg
    is Dutch ?

    re .7

Yesssss......I know he's Dutch. But, has'nt anyone else ever noticed
the differences between American and British ( European ) styles.
I dunno, possibly something to do with the role of radio in both
terratories; in retrospect the European sound has always been more
aggressive, less radio friendly shall we say. However, it's not
as obvious anymore especially since Leppard and Whitesnake sold
back a sound to it's originators. Likewise, on a differnt level
    there's been the the Speed/Thrash invasion ( mostly ) from the States;
ironic considering that about ten years before it gathered speed
( ouch! ), Motorhead were pounding peoples' ears in Europe.

Back in '82 when that first Vandenberg album came out, things were
generally more pidgeon-holed, American and European, so that's probably
why the record has a European sound. There you go, I think I've
explained it but then again I could be talking crap!!.

pete, i think sotd was with motley crue and
waysted. it was probably either the same tour if
they came back around, or bark at the moon ...

     RE: A few back

I was at the "speak of the devil" tour in Worc., Ma. That was
indeed a good show, however I have seen better shows since then.
If I remember correctly, I think I left that concert "Stoned" and
thought that Vandemburg blew Ozzy Awayyyyyyyyy .

The highlight of Vandenberg was definetly Adrians guitar playing.
I have all three albums. All the previously mentioned songs are
noteworthy , also the title cut from the last album, Alibi , was
nice. Burning Heart was the only song I know of that got airplay.
A few others made medium rotation on EMPTY-V. I'm sure " Your love
is in vain" was one of those.
Nice artwork on the last two albums. The other musicians in the
band besides Adrian are probably doing Holiday Inns.
581.15Greatest Hits...?BUFFER::GOLDSMITHI'm a Sun King baby!Tue Aug 15 1989 10:326
...They have a "Greatest Hits" album out.

HA! They never had one hit, let alone a greatest one... I didn't even
think that the Vandenberg stuff was that good. Oh well.

I'm fairly sure they used to open for Ozzy on a big tour.

Yep, they toured with Ozzy during Bark at the
                Moon.

(Motley Cure and Waysted backed them up during
Speak of the Devil, Metallica during Ultimate Sin
and I forget the latest tour already :') )
