-< good interview! >-
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WGIR (Mike Jones - great HM DJ!) had Carmine Appice on last night for
a lengthy interview, and they talked about Blue Murder, his new
group. The lineup is Carmine on drums, Tony Franklin (of the Firm)
on bass, and John Sykes (Whitesnake, Thin Lizzy) on guitar and vocals.
Sykes wrote all the songs. The album is produced by Bob Rock (Bon
Jovi, Aerosmith, Kingdom Come, etc.).
According to Carmine, the album sounds a lot like a followup to
the last Whitesnake album, with very similiar songs. He also said
that he feels this is the best band he's *ever* been in - and he's
been in a lot (Rod Stewart, Ozzy Osbourne, Vanilla Fudge, King
Kobra, etc., etc.).
The first song is due January, 1989. Keep an eye out for it!
BTW, he also said that he played drums on some of the last Floyd LP!

| I too have gotten this Album. I don't really like it but yes it
is very much in the "Whitesnake" genere. The overall production
on the CD that is sounded a bit too "Muddy" for my tastes but WTF.
I seem to remember that the Album/Cassette/CD were all mastered
by different people so this could account for varying reviews.
(Depending on the Media Reviewed)
I suppose the album will grow on me but it hasn't had the same impact
on me that the 1987 Whitesnake Album had.

RE:-1
I grew into the '87 Whitesnake album as I am finding out I'm
doing with the Blue Murder album.I think that is what keeps any album
in the charts for over 50 weeks is that is has to grow on you.ie..
Whitesnake,Def L,and now Blue Murder.I played the album twice last
night and found each time that a different song would grab me....Sykes
plays a pretty good guitar and definitely has his own style..

I saw a Blue Murder vid the other night on Mtv, can't remember
the name of it though. My first thought was, it's gonna be one
of those "it grows on kinda song's".
Hollywood...........I don't remember much at all from that night

| The thing that really grabbed me the first time I heard the album
was the bizzare sounds coming from using s fretless bass ! Even
though it's not listed in my "head bangin" section, I think it's
a very tasteful piece of work. Back to the bass ... can anybody
tell me if the bass player for Blue Murder is the same guy that
played for The Firm ? Sure sounds like him, but I can't remember
what he looked like.
Scary ...

Am I correct?

I haven't heard anything from Blue Murder, so it could be. But there was a
song released by Jimmy Page last year off his solo album that was called
"Wasting My Time", which may be what you're talking about. Not sure, though.

something or other?!?
I tend to agree with Cat about the Jimmy Page song.

541.12 | thumbs down on the single | HAZEL::STARR | What do ya do when you get lonely...? | Wed Jun 07 1989 01:29 | 16 |
| I saw the Blue Murder video ("Valley of the Kings"?) on MTV tonight. Wow,
was I disappointed!!! I thought the song bit the big one, and was really
just trash!
I was soooo psyched to hear this album, now I'm not so sure. The only slightly
redeeming part was Sykes soloing, which was decent. But the rest was just a
mush of weak songwriting, poor production, and way-too-bombastic builds.
Reminded me of a heavier version of Asia or GTR, whom I also hated. I hope
the rest of the album is an improvement over that song....
Oh - one other good thing to say - Carmine's drums sounded pretty good,
when I could hear them thru the muck (although I think he overplayed on the
record....).

One tune off the album I find pretty good is "Jellyroll"..The album
grows on you the more you play it.I called our local FM album station
and they said that they'd only play Blue Murder at night because it's
too hard for daytime ears....That strikes me as funny..they must be the
same people that voted 'Tull as the Heavy Metal Band Of the Millenium!

Question for all you name-associated-with-the-face folks..
There are three guys in the band and I know that Carmine
Appice is on drums, but the other two I'm confused about.
In one of the earlier replies, I thought someone had said
that John Norum (formerly of Europe??) was the lead singer.
I thought he was the other guitar player (bass?? rhythm??
lead?? ..i can never remember)
Once and for all...which one is Sykes and which one is
Norum??

| Tigga~~
John Sykes is the Guitarist and Vocalist..... the Bass player used
to be with the FIRM but I can never remember his name.
The only track I liked on the album was :"Black Hearted Woman":
the problem is it sound a bit like an old Rainbow song!

Tony Franklin is the bass player. John Norum is not involved with the group at
all....

Don't ask me where I got Norum from!!!! Egad..thinking

I guess the cute one that doesn't play drums and doesn't
sing lead. Who's he??
Franklin, right??

541.18 | White Murder? | SIGME::KARRFALT | I'm a junky for you | Wed Jun 07 1989 14:01 | 11 |
| Sorry folks, but I have to agree with .12 about the single. I saw
the video last week sometime and after hearing the VJ really hype it up for
about 2 minutes, I was really looking forward to hearing it. Needless to say,
I was greatly disappointed. It just seemed so deliberatly commercial and mass
produced and didn't seem to have any real personality.
I like Carmen Appice and Tony Franklin, but the singer/guitarist
doesn't do anything for me. Did someone mention Whitesnake? That was the
first thing that popped into my head while I was watching it.

|
Has anyone seen the new Blue Murder video, for the song "Jellyroll"?
The song is really good, and the video is pretty good too. Not
a lot of band shots, but there are a lot of Sykes and some girl.
I was reading an article about Sykes in "Guitar". He is a pretty
cool dude. He was telling how he was fired from Whitesnake. He
said he never knew he was fired until he stopped getting a paycheck.
He called Geffen and they told him he had been fired. Coverdale
is a real jerk.

Oh, I am so p*ssed off!!!!!! Bon Jovi and his boys are playing a
gig in Atlanta this Thursday. I have already seen them and I really
didn't want to go again, especially when I found out that Bad English
was opening up.
So what happens now, Bad English cancels and Blue Murder is touring
with Bon Jovi. I would love to see Sykes, Franklin, and Appice.
But the concert is just about sold out. Oh well, I guess I will
just see them another time.

| I happened to catch B.M. in Balt. And I have to say they were quite
impressive!!! The band was tight as sh*t and sound incredible!!!
Mr.Sykes also put on one hell of a guitar clinic that truely made me
wonder why the hell did Whitesnake ever get rid of this guy in the
first place but thank God they did!!! Definetly one of my all time
favorite shows!!!!
