| After mucho discussion amongst the mods, we have decided to re-open the
Who topic. They are at least one of the most influential bands in rock,
and there seems to be enough interest in the topic to generate some
good discussion.
Please try and refrain from the "But they're not HM"-type notes - just hit
Next Unseen if you're not interested....
thanx,

It's really too bad those of you that are putting down the Who, cannot
appreciate what they did for Music. Music that you like now.
You have to realize the bands that were out then. The Beatles, The
Stones, lots of pop bands doing the same thing.
The Who was one of the first bands to break a trend. They were
powerful, they were heavy, they were wildmen, they were probably the
one band that can really be credited with forging the way for Heavy
Metal and Punk in the mid sixties.
The Who did alot for music, they brought it a very long way in
a very short time. I wish some of you could appreciate that.

Hey, is like The Who really metal??? Why do people like The Who in the
first place??? The tunes were never that good, they're even worse 20
years down the road! They stink live too!! Ever see them in concert??
Yuk!! Roger D. is like the worst singer, and Pete T. is just as lousy
a guitar player. Sorry for the flames here on The Who, but this noter
is not going to enjoy reading about and hearing them on the radio until
I puke (or die, whichever comes first)!

WHO cares... not me. They were decent in their time. If there's nothing
else on any stations on the rad, I'll listen. They're tolerable to
me... but I wouldn't wait in line to buy tickets to a show. I'm not
saying I'd pass up the opportunity to go to a show, especially if I had
no plans that night and ticket prices weren't outrageous, but I really
wouldn't consider it the event of a lifetime. There's too much other
noise I'd rather listen to.

I'm a little surprised at that reaction from you too, Buck. Not
that I expect everyone to like what I do or anything, and I can
certainly see how you wouldn't think of Townsend as a great guitarist,
but I always thought The Who (and P.T.) wrote good catchy tunes.
I'm not talking about the hit tunes for the most part. I guess
none of it's very complex, but for me, a lot of it's appealing.
I thought that Townsends "White City" was brilliant, especially
lyrically.
That's what I liked them for. I donno, I just figured you would
have appreciated that.

Well, I admit the note was a little out of character for me, and the
note definitely is a tad tounge-in-cheek for the most part...but, its
like how Rob, Pete, or Longhair would react if Guns n Roses were coming
to town and everytime they looked in notes or turned the radio on
(EVERY station!) they heard them.

material, but really enjoy them. I also enjoy Pete Townsends solo
work. Say what you will about his guitar playing, but I feel that he's
a brilliant songwriter.
I'll probably get bashed for this because it's probably one of their
lighter works overall, but my favorite Who album is "Face Dances". I
donno, I guess I kind of identified with some of the songs. I also
liked Townsends "White City" a lot.
