    	Yes, I have heard of MASS, I have the album- "New Birth"
        I think it is an excellent album. This band comes out of
    	Cape Cod I believe, they were at the Channel on Friday 
    	night. The song "Do You Love Me" was played quite a lot
    	on WAAF about three years ago. Where do you work in HLO ?

    Mass is from Revere.  I really got into New Birth, it was a great
    album.  After it came out they sort of fizzled for a while and now
    they'er back and better than ever, so they say.
    
    They're on a new label, and their new album was produced by Michael
    Sweet of Stryper.  How coincidental that they all of a sudden "found
    God" when they started hanging out w/ Stryper.  IMO they "found
    a gimmick."  Or so.  Let's hope they get as rich as Stryper so they,
    too, can "bring glory to the name of God."  Of WHO?  Give me a break.
    Stryper and anyone else who jumps on that bandwagon irks me as much
    as the televangelists.  Who knows, I may be wrong, maybe they're
    sincere.

Well, actually, I have a copy of thier first EP that came out on a
small Boston label a few years ago. 

Mass is a decent band, but nothing special, IMO. The guitarist goes
way over the top too often for my tastes, and relies more on speed
than taste and feel. But they did come up with at least one classic
in "Do You Love Me", so you never know what the future holds....

Nawww. It was just titled 'Mass', if I remember correctly. I have both
this and their LP at home - I'll check tonight and list the songs
that are on the EP (I think they were different than what was on the LP).

                They DID  have  an album called "New Birth" and I
                do kind of remember that song being on it.  I was
                never a big MASS fan, but some of my friends were
                back some years ago.
                
                

    
              TRUST ME... I know the album inside out and the title
    of the album is "new birth"...glad you remembered, cat,  :-) . So, there
    new album is out. I guess I'll just have to look at Strawberry's
    again.

       Yes, "Do You Love Me , was played often, That is one of my favorite

It was released in 1985 on the 'Mass Music I & II' label. It was 
produced by Jon Mathias, and recorded at The Record Plant in NYC.

                I haven't  seen  the  guitarist in a while, but I
                used to party  in Revere, and he was always there
                along  with  the  rest    of   the  Boston  bsaed

    grim reaper !  Sj , I work at hlo, in the systems engineering group,
    I go into the fab once in a while to trouble shoot the kiethly testers.
          Are you still working at hlo ? I also work on device/product

It is just entitled 'Mass'.

And they have a new LP coming out, not an EP. The 4-song disk I just
listed was an EP (Extended Play). 'New Birth' was an LP (Long Play).
The newest disk (which is not yet out) will be an LP.

Just trying to get the terms straight. There seemed to be some confusion.

    I'm not sure of the name of the new album, but I saw it last month
    at Tower Records in Boston...  In the Local section.  
    The personnel remains the same for all three (1ep, 2lps). I 
    heard "Pedal to the Metal" on WBCN, so I guess its been 
    re-mixed and re-released, since its on both the EP and the New
    LP. I have a couple of articles about these guys if anyone wants
    a copy, send me mail, and I'll be glad to send them to

p.s.  they played a heavy metal wed. not too long ago, I missed it,

    I'm a big Mass fan and have seen them six or seven timen.  These guys
    are great But they are getting ripped by they're management!  These
    guys should be up there along with some of the bigger bands.  I get
    dissappointed with the music bus everytime I see a great band with tons
    of commercial and metal potential getting nothing but clubs.  These
    guys deserve a opening shot with a big name to get some buzz started!

    The name has a double meaning...Mass as in from MASSachusettes, but
    also Mass as in that which is held in celebration of Christ.  For the
    longest time, they were an Ozzy-clone band, but they kind of settled
    (eventually) into a Stryper clone band, with help from Michael Sweet
    (he produced their 2nd lp).

    They have two lps out...first one is called New Birth...it's *ok*...
    recorded and mixed horribly though.  Had one substantial single off of
    it "Do You Love Me?", but I never bought the second lp.  I heard one
    single off of it, and it sounded JUST like Stryper.

    TONIGHT !!! ....WTF , Gee I miss all the FUN !  I think they are very
    good, have not heard anything from them in a while however.  Think the
    last thing I heard from them was on the NEW BIRTH album...years ago.

    	early '89 I think.  If you like Stryper, you'll like these 
    	guys.

    ....FWIW.......They played alot of new material on friday night and of
    course the old favorites that people who have followed them for years
    want to hear........sounded good......also FWIW, the only reason 
    people associate this band with Stryper is because Michael whatshisname
    from that band produced one of their releases....the name MASS was
    chosen by the record company that first signed the band way back when
    because the band members themselves couldn't agree to a name at the
    time.....has zip to do with religion......./k

    i was at the rockpile a week or so ago and saw a flyer saying that
    Mass is playing the Rockpile this weekend........call to confirm
    but i think the flyer said Dec. 12th.........../k
