| guyz, I'm really curious.. (ought oh you say?)
I've seen the Lita Ford Video, and she wreathes around on the floor,
flaunting her "body" etc..
I saw Joan Jett with Robert Plant and she sang, and, pardon the
expression, "humped" the microphone stand.
Vixen, well, they think their Sh*t don't stink, with their fake
hair.. etc.
My question is: Do men ( or people in general ) take female rockers
seriously? Or do they just like them for their "image" and not
their music? I'm learning how to play the guitar, will anyone take
"me" seriously if I want to join a band someday??
I think the only band that "I" take seriously happens to be Heart...
What do you think??

381.9 | touchy subject ahead.... | HAZEL::STARR | Like a fool, fell in love with you... | Tue Dec 06 1988 13:36 | 23 |
| Depends on the music and the people, Cindi.
Let's face it, in HM, the girls are not taken seriously - they are just
sex symbols. And it doesn''t help any that most of the current female
rockers do nothing to change that image. But it does make it harder on those
who come later, and want to be taken seriously.
Outside of HM, there is a much better chance of being taken seriously as
a musician. It is very commonplace nowadays to see both girls and guys in
the same band (which I think it better than an all-girl band - that just
seems too contrived and a marketing move, not for musical reasons).
Of course, please keep in mind that females are not alone in this genre.
Males in HM are just as much sex symbols as the females are. I mean,
let's face it - HM is more than just the actual music - it is also
the look, and the dress, and the marketing. Unfortunately.
One thing to help yourself to be taken seriously is the image you
project - girls in skin-tight skirts, lots of cleavage, and two cans of
hair spray just aren't going to be taken as seriously as someone else
that dresses and looks 'normal'.

| Ya, I take these fabulously gorgeous and mega-magumba'd babes
seriously. I go to their concerts and seriously watch them flaunt
it on stage and I listen to the guy behind them playing lead guitar.
Get it? Gee, Cindi, it you notice these babes ARE good looking
and are definitely making use of that. And NONE of them are the
actual lead guitar players! But if I were you, and I am certainly
not, I wouldn't care about being taken seriously. Look at their
'act' and then look at their bank accounts. Looks do sell. Playing
some guitar just makes them look a little better.
Hammer.

| OK a few comments on Lita Ford,Female guitarists...these comments
are partially my own and some are hers from an interview I read
of her in a music magazine.
Lita Ford has been playing guitar since she was 12 years old.
'Till about 1980 she played in a rock group called 'The Runaways'
this band also included Joan Jett. IMO Lita can play guitar very
well...so too can Joan Jett and Chrissie Hynde(I'm sure there are
others as well).
Since the demise of the Runaways Lita has been taking singing lessons
and by now has mastered this art_form. She takes her music serious
but is not into the 'message' 'content' HYPE...She herself describes
her music as good ol' Rock'N'Roll and NOT Heavy_Metal. She is a
personal friend of both Ozzy Osbourne and Lemmy(ex Motorhead) and
both co-wrote songs with her on her latest album. She dislikes music
with the 'come follow me and we'll all be saved' message. She
particularly *detests* a HM band called STRYPER(sp?) who portray
some kind of Christian message in their lyrics, Jim and Tammy
Bakkar(sp),and the 'two_faced do_gooders' that want offensive lyrics
censored(labelled)!!!...she believes R'n'R is more related to the
darker side of life that to the other side.
She dislikes feminists and the whole feminism movement. She doesn't
care if they think she's being exploited by the male dominated media.
In her own words (quote) 'When I walk into a room I want people
to stand up and take notice of me'(unquote).
She doesn't over indulge in Booze and Drugs and most days she works
out in the gym.
BTW her latest video of 'kiss me deadly' has finally been banned
on the TV here in Ireland. What a load of crap(the banning that
is)...next I suppose it will be ladies underware, shampoo and perfume
commercials!!!
As far as I'm concerned she can play guitar, sing and is not afraid
to speak her mind...the best of luck to her.

The Sugarcubes concert was on this past Sunday night at 1:00am.
I finally read the cable guide we get for free and it lists the
month for MTV on one page what they are showing. The only other
concert on this month is a Lita Ford concert at 1:00am on Jan 28th
after the Headbangers Ball. They will probably show Sugarcubes again so
if you get a cable guide you can check it out, but since I now know
where the listing is I will probably check it every month.

Well, for me the most important criterion is the sound and not the
visual effects, and I prefer when the music is made by musicians
rather than by electricians (that's the reason why one of my
favourite bands is DP, still). So I have no problem taking female
rockers seriously. Let me know when and where you do your first

For someone who knew Lita as a kid, this has been interesting reading.
Unfortunately, I haven't seen her since she was out here with her mom
many years ago. But, her aunt and my mother are close friends so I
still get filled in on what's she's doing.
I can remember one summer she & her mother were here visiting her aunt.
She had just started playing the guitar then. One afternoon her mother
sent Lita out to dig for clams. That was quite the afternoon. We must
have spent a good 3 hours sitting in water during low tide digging for
clams. I must admit, it was an interesting way to spend a day.
Sorry for babbling. This note just brought back a lot of memories.
Lita's a great person and we had a lot of fun together when we were

order for Lita too. I haven't heard "Lita" [3rd album], so I

Anybody other than moi think that the track 'Wakeup Call' in Lita
latest efort is a rip-off of the beginning of Bon Jovi's "Lay your
hands on me".

RE: Tigga [from 711.something]
If you want a recommendation, get "Dancing on the Edge" ... the
best Lita album. And believe it or not, "Stiletto" is my 2nd
favorite ... "Hungry", "Wake Up Call", "Outro", "Stiletto" are
all great!!

Yup, I went... Great show! LITA!.... wow, thats all I can say...
great outfit! (black chaps, G-string, and half shirt... YOWW!)
She sounded great! cool set, was cool we she sang that song, "close
your eyes," or something like that! She had the crowd sing all of
Ozzy's parts! and it sounded mint!
It went pretty well, until at the end of the last song, the Git player
lead over into the crowd, and they all jumped up and grabbed the neck
of his guitar and pulled him into the crowd, about 6 roadies came out
and jumped into the crowd... was comical!!
OVERALL, 3 thumbs up!!
