My starting list, generic looking now, not
sounding, okay . . .
Britiny Fox
Cinderella
Faster Pussycat
Poison
Europe
Bon Jovi
(Well, maybe not FP)
Hmmm, most of these bands sound alike too (except
for BJ really).
If you want sound alike, I'll also have to throw
in G&R.

| Well, I also believe that too mnay bands nowadays sound too much alike.
Remember - I entered a similiar note not too long ago about vocalists...
But I have an answer as to why:
Remember that the bands we get to see and hear on MTV are a very small
portion of what is out there musically. How do they get decided? By the
record companies!
Suppose you are the head of A&R for a record company, and you're looking
for a band to sign to your label. (Remember you are judged and promoted by
how well your bands make money for the label!) You go into a club and
see two bands - one is a blues/jazz band, and the other sounds and looks
just like Bon Jovi, who just sold NINE MILLION albums. Which one are
you gonna sign?
The record industry is business, and labels sign and promote whatever will
make them money. And remember - this is what the average record buyer wants!
If they didn't, the bands wouldn't have gotten signed to begin with,
and certainly wouldn't have sold any albums. The companies are just
responding with a demand from the public to find these groups.

Kim if you read..I think ....the base note you would see that he
was talking about LOOKS... I didn't say that they sound alike...but
ya hafta admit that they sure do look alike!!! A couple of times
when they showed a quick clip of Poison's Bret M... I thought it
was Vince Neil...and the style of clothind is the same...and same
poses...and same style of playing..and same type of vids...and the
list goes on and on. I wasn't slagging off on either of the bands
but IMO they look alike.

What the hell kinda world is this where all we get is the same music
and the same "look", oh sure there are a few origional perk here

Metallica who stand for freedom and refuse to compromise and try to
force us into a socialist like musical frame of mind. We must...

| Saturday Night Live had a piece in its new section a few week ago
that said that some reporter or someone had discovered that Stryper,
Europe, Poison(I think) and a few other bands were actually the
same band. As the guy was reading out the names, their pictures
were flasing by behind him, and to tell you the truth, they all
did have the same "look", especially to someone who didn't know
them from their music. I thought it was a riot!

I know all you Crue bashers aren't going to like this, but...
ever notice that when the Crue comes out with a different style,
that the rest of the industry follows?
You don't believe me?
Remember 1981-1982??? Remember the "lone rider of the apocalypse"
look the Crue had? Remember the Satanic overtones? The wild blonde
lead singer? They got huge, and everyone tried to look like them.
Remember 1985??? Remember the Theatre of Pain tour's glam look,
with the girly makeup, "big" hair, and goofy spandex pink
polka-dotted tights with panty-type thingies on the outside of them?
Remember all of the tattoos on these guys?
Now look at all of the popular metal bands (with few exceptions)
look at Bon Jovi, Ratt, Poison, White Snake, White Lion, etc. etc.
They are all DIRECT rip-offs of Motley Crue's different looks.
Now Motley Crue's into leather, brown hair, and jeans, and look
around at all the bands that are following them.
Deny it if you will, but I've been watching this since the early
80's.

| Er? come to think of it, he's right, at least as far as the posers
go. If I'm not mistaken, bands like Aerosmith, Old Van Halen, Judas
Priest, the Scorpions, Black Sabbath, and AC/DC, changed little
during Motley Crue's fashion days.
The devil dog who's still shaking cobwebs.
P.S. Van Halen always had a wild blonde lead singer, but DLR never
used 6 cans of hair spray for every show.

I don't understand what that has to do with the Crue.
The Crue is making a statement and changing with the
times...so be it.
But to me it's the bands who are following them who are
the losers here. They are the ones who seem to think that
because they dress and act like the Crue that they're
going to become as popular.
I've noticed their phases, too. And I've noticed that
alot of bands seem to follow them. But I guess I just
don't see the point of bashing the Crue for the group's
that follow them.

What????? Who is following who??????? I haven't read the rest
of the replies to this one but .27 is a bunch of bull.....
Crue just steals their look from bands which have already been
successful. They also look straight at what is selling and what
is wanted by the teeny-bobbers before they change. They changed
to jeans and leather because of it's success with other bands.
If they change their image, they hope to catch the attention of
the market that ignored them. They only do things to sell...they
have absolutly no talent or creativity to be original.

re:35
Tell me the bands that the Crue has imitated, and I will maybe
be convinced. Otherwise you just sound like another person
that just doesn't like the Crue, and can't listen to anything
that isn't negative about them.
And I'm not talking "well, this band's singer dyed his hair blond,
and that band blah blah blah." Tell me the bands before the Crue
that were setting the trends, and made certain looks/styles that
the Crue said "this band is making it BIG with this style, let's
jump on the bandwagon and copy it!"
What band looked like the Crue, sounded like the Crue, lived
the same incredible on-the-razor's-edge lifestyle that the Crue
lived and was huge BEFORE MOTLEY CRUE??? I'd like to hear it.

| re .36
For their BIG hair makeup and suspenders was taken straight from
pop and rock other than metal. For example David Bowie with his
make up for Ziggy Stardust, or how about Boy George. You might
even say that they used a toned down version of Kiss. Not to mention
their clothes being taken from various artists like Aerosmith, or
David Lee Roth (While he was in VH). There is another band that
was known for its drag look but the name eludes me.
As I mentioned in my first note, their tough guy image was taken
from bands to appeal to the heavier crowd. They copied bands like
Priest, and Maiden. Priest in turn, switched to a more pop look
and sound. What it all boils down to is money. What ever the market
wants they will do. I don't like crue but I don't hate 'em either.
They even have a couple songs I like.
