334.0. "Tobruk" by RDGENG::GREID (Crpng Dth.....) Tue Nov 15 1988 11:16

Hopefully this is a new topic and won't get relocated cos' i havent
checked to see if there already is a topic, well how lazy can you
    get.......

The subject of the note is a band called TOBRUK who i have just
bought and album called Pleasure and Pain. I bought cos' on the
compilation Kerrang Volume I there is a track called 'Wild On The
Run' which i really liked. Although this album hasn't got the same
track on it i thought i would take a gamble. Anyone know anything
about them..? I think they are an english outfit....discography....?

I remember them!!!However,(if you're still reading this many months
    later) I can't provide you with a discography.The first thing I
heard of them was a single called "Falling" which was a classic
and appeared on their first album (whatever that was called?).That
surfaced around '85 and leant towards the UFO/LIZZY sound.

I did manage to catch them live on two occasions back in the autumn
of '84 supporting UFO at the Lyceum (London) and with Manowar (believe
it or not!!!???) at Hammersmith Odeon. They were a great band but
their melodic style was out of vogue at the time;the thrash scene
was picking up speed (sorry!!) and I don't know whats happened to
them since.Still,a fine band and a pity they could'nt wave the flag
for good UK melodic rock abroad.

If you like that style then it's worth checking out Heavy Pettin's
    first album:"Lettin Loose";superb stuff!!!.They were also a great
British hope but seemed to lose it and fall apart.

                   Thats all folks,
                       Stay clean,

"heavy pettin"i happen to know these guys, they played the glasgow pub
scene for a while before "lettin loose"they split after the second
album "rock aint dead"because they are a bunch of big nuts on huge
individual ego trips.the music was good though.

if you can find a band called "glasgow"playing they are brilliant.
tell big mick and archie jim dougie and the crew, we miss the gigs
at the ponderosa and the dial

334.5Wild on the RunFAILTE::CARTYPTue Nov 17 1992 11:1229

Snake (Stuart Neale) sings in a club called Rock Cafe in Lanzarote I'm
a good friend of his and have visited him a few times over there.

Tobruk were a great band they released their first single 'Wild on the
run' in '83 and then brought out an album with the same name 2 years
    later.
They toured with the likes of UFO and Manowar and also did some
headlining shows in Britain, they also appeared on Channel 4's ECT
programme sharing the bill with Shy, Warrior and Hawkwind.
The second album 'Pleasure and Pain' wasn't as much of a commercial
success as the first release, they also changed record labels during
this time, changing from EMI to FM Revolver, and due to royalty
problems Snake left the band before the 2nd album was released.

I'm not quite sure if the band carried on without him but I do know
that he went on to form the Wildhearts with Ginger before moving to
    Lanzarote.

I hope to go back to Lanzarote and see him very soon.

    TOBRUK lives

If anyone has any more info, get writing, it's good to see some other
    fans out there.
