278.0. "Night Ranger" by RDGENG::GREID (Crpng Dth.....) Tue Oct 18 1988 08:02

IMO considering some other bands that although not strictly HM are
involved in this conference, i think that NIGHTRANGER should also
    be given a mention.

I have all four of their releases but have yet to aquire the new
one Man In Motion which has just been released. Their albums are
Midnight Madness, Dawn Patrol, 7 Wishes and Big Life. IMO the first
two are the best two as far as Rock is concerned but the latter
two are also good as far as commercial rock is concerned. They
reckon that the new opus is more in the first two's catagory.

I like Nightranger a lot no matter what area of rock they are said
to represent, Sister Christian is a classic IMO. They have recently
lost their long standing keyboard player to which they seemed quite
    openly pleased about.

    Anyone else like them.?

    Prince Of The Dawn.

Well, I'm not a big fan of their later stuff (they seem to be approaching
'Europe' territory - ugh!), but Jeff Watson and Brad Gillis are on the
best one-two punches in the business! These guys are AWESOME!

For a starter, listen to "Rock in America", and Jeff Watson's hammer-ons.
Phew!

When are these guys gonna tour? I remember they played the Orpheum a few
years back, but that's it. Anybody hear of any upcoming dates?

My old band actually won a lip-synch (what the
                hell . . .) in a *DANCE* club with Don't Tell
Me You Love Me! (We tried Still Rock in America
the week before, but it didn't quite make it).

According to Metal Edge (copied without permission)

...Jack Blades isn't shedding any tears over the demise
of Night Ranger - he's got a new band, called Damn
Yankees, with Ted Nugent and Tommy Shaw. "It's like we've
been together for 10 years. I'm real excited about it,"
enthused Jack, who hopes to have a record out by year's
    	end.

members of the band are pursuing other projects as well.

pond)i am also a nightranger fan.i saw the band supporting foreigner
in edinburugh a couple of years ago and have been hooked ever since.

best songs for my lugholes are dont tell me,eddies comin out, passion
    play,still rock in america,let him run,big life.

the quality of musicianship is outstanding (a rare thing these days)
unfortunatly the band have broke from the record company,so i hope
    thay make a speedy return.

Has anyone heard a rumor that Night Ranger are supposed
to get back together next summer (?) for a "reunion"
tour?? Personally, I didn't think they were quite
popular enough to have a reunion tour but that's another
    	story.

Supposedly a guy my girlfriend knows is going to take
the place of Jack Blades (?) ...which, to me, sort of
defeats the purpose of a 'reunion' but, hey, what do
    	I know? (8

What's the guitarist with the long blonde hair doing these days?

I forget the name of the song, but doesn't he do an eight finger
lead? I thought so when I heard it, then saw the video. Amazing!

compilation album. I remember thinking that Morse smoked him bad...

Yup, I was just going to mention that, before I saw that Greg
    	had beat me to it.

Even though Morse is alot better, Jeff Watson is no slouch.

And there is some GREAT guitar work in the first couple Night
    	Ranger albums.

95% of it performed by Brad Gillis! I liked his playing on the early
Night Ranger material quite a lot. Watson's sounded very generic to
me, not much feeling in it. I could care less he played it with some 8
finger tapping technique or whether it played it by hammering on with
his butt cheeks, I didn't like what he played.

I'm glad someone posted something in this note - made me grab the `Dawn
Patrol' album and give it a spin last night. Even though `Don't Tell
Me You Love Me' got completely worn out on radio and MTV, it's still a
monster of a tune. One of my old bands used to cover that one - what a
blast standing on top of the PA stacks doin' the tappin' stuff ! 8^)

"Play Rough" smoked my stereo. Then "Eddie's Coming Out Tonight"
    nuked it!!!

Jeff Watson did a song with Alan Holdsworth for GFTPM compilation.
    Kinda disappointment, tho...
