| | I liked the video but it's still hard for me to take an all girl
band serious. I know what I hear, and it sounds good, but Heavy
Metal is kinda like football - a guy sport. I guess the Go-Go's
and The Bangles ruined any hopes for me to see the light. Now I
like a girl singing while the guys blast out the music .... I'll
give Vixen a B- (they sound real good to be all girls ....)

Vixen, well, yea they're pretty hot and should if not already
be added to the "Hunkettes of HM"

All I've seen or heard so far is the vid, and it pretty damn
good, but like Jerry, I agree with the sound part and all but
the image and agressivness should be left to the ones that do
it right. I mean if there's anything I dislike is a girl that
acts like a man. that's the last thing we need in HM is a bunch
    	of "She-men" running around.

Overall Vixen's got my vote for a up and coming HM band and
as long as the music good I can get over the rest.

    	Hollywood...............IMO!

with him. I've seen Vixen on MTV, the first time I saw them I thought
"is this some kind of joke". I like the song they do and can take
them much more seriously if I don't see them.

It is nice to finally hear a decent all female band in H_M but it
will take a lot getting used to.

                I was there . . . but you're not going to like
                my review :-)

Actually, I don't know a great deal about this
band, but looking at it from a musicians point of
view, the singer actually sounded pretty good
live, the bass player wasn't bad, but the other
                two can go.

Supposedly the bassist teaches (!) at BIT. As
far as I could tell BIT better not stand for BASS
INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY (although I can think of
some others it *may* stand for).

The guitarist went to Berkley (must have been
going to hang out with the guys that go to school
                there . . .)

The funny thing was yesterday, Mark Parento (sp?)
got on WBCN and asked, "When are those sluts
                going on tonight?"

                - Rob

And by the way, none of them were really that
great looking when viewed from close up. In
fact, most of them were kind of ugly. Oh well.

I went to see Scorpions in Marseille and their opening was made by
those girls. I never heard them before the concert, which is something
I usually dont' like coz you don't recognize any song :-)
	But they were great :
		- excellent sound
		- lot's of energy, they warmed up the place very well
		- they look attractive but I was not very close to the stage
so I wouldn't bet on that, anyway is it important ?

They play for 40mn, we've got a Bass solo that was excellent IMO, and
a very good drums solo (better than Rarebell and its electronic kit)
The lead singer has a good voice, and knows how to make you rock and
sing along with her. The guitarist was ok.
A very nice show from VIXEN, IMO.

                                   My opinions

      1. Talent - I feel that Janet has a very good voice. It's pleasing
to listen to and has a good tone. Share is also a desent bass player,
seems to know her sh*t. As for Jan, I feel the best solo on the
tape is "Desperate" and that was done by Vivian Campbell. I won't
even get into my opinion of the drummer Roxy.
Most of the songs weren't written by the group so I
would imagine that their songwriting is lacking.

      2. Looks - I met Janet (lead singer) last year and she was very
pretty. Had no make-up on either. You could tell she is older than
they make her out to be in the videos. Very nice person. She acted
real shy and was very nervous talking to my friend and I. Didn't
get to meet anyone else in the band but the only other one I feel
is pretty is Jan the guitarist.

| | I had a chance to see this band. I didn't think they looked that bad,
especially the guitarist. They didn't sound that bad either. I believed
the were an opening band for Poison. One of the better female bands I
    have seen.

The first time I saw vixen was their video, "On the
edge of a broken heart" and I went gaga when the lead guitarette
stared into the camera during one of the clips. That has to be one
of the sexiest facial poses I've ever seen. Every time I see it,
I melt in the lazy boy. I wish she would pose for playboy, and put
    My active imagination to rest..

The first time I saw Vixen was in one of those Hard-Body movies.

Now, the >Hard< part, was it sequel number 1,2 or 3 ? I give up! :*)

If you don't know, it was one!

"Vixen" was in Hardbodies I [I rented it last night to check].

However, it seems to be a previous version of the band. In
    	1984, Vixen seemed to be:

    	Janet Gardner Lead vocals
    	Jan Kuenhemund Lead guitar
    	Pia Miacco Drums?
    	Lauri Hedlund Bass?
    	Tamara Ivanov Rhythm guitar

I definitely recognized Jan K., and I think Janet Gardner is
still the lead singer. Lauri Hedlund sounds familiar, so it
seems that Pia and Tamara were dropped in favor of Roxxi on
    	drums in the present line-up.

Can anyone confirm the new members?

Don't know about the other members, but I do know that Pia Maiocco
played bass, not drums. I know her from a long time ago. My mother
went to school with her mother in Sweden when they were kids. Pia's
married to Steve Vai now. And I'm invited to her sisters wedding
reception Saturday. Maybe... just maybe... Steve'll be there! I
    doubt it though.

BTW I used to be WFOVX5::JENKS, but the guys account that I was using
has been re-claimed by him, so now I have to use this krappy acount! :)

| | Yep, Stevie Vai! Pias mentioned in the thanks on many of his albums.
With DLR, and without. On Passion and Warfare it says something like
"to the lights of my life, Pia Vai, and Julian Angel Vai" ( I guess
that's his kid.) Pia is the one who says "This isn't just a dream" and
"and that's not just greasy kid stuff" on the album. And "just go for
    it" on Flexable.

| | Vixen was on Rock Line last night. Apparently, Janet appeared in a movie
or two that she thought was not appropiate to discuss on the radio.
She also appears in a movie called Hard Bodies. Jan may appear in this
    movie as well.

If you ask me, Roxy sounded more intelligent. She also has a
nicer voice. How does one enroll in the MI? How does one get to call
rockline and get in. I tried for 45 min. to talk to vixen, but i got
    busy signals..

| 257.77 | Redial... | TROA01::KIMURA |  | Tue Sep 18 1990 16:00 | 12 |
| | I know nothing about MI. I see advertisements for it in Guitar For the
Practicing Musician. I'll take a look and see if there is a place to
write to, or call for more information.

As for phoning Rockline, I don't know how it works. I have never tried
phoning Rockline. But, I have phoned in at a local radio station and
won tickets to see Rush. I did this by phoning. Upon hearing the busy
signal, I hung up and phoned back. This time I phoned the wrong number
and had to redial. On the third try, I got through and won. Perhaps I
was just lucky, or perhaps you have to phoning and hanging up.

| | Vixen has split into two hostile camps:
JAnet Gardner and Share Pederson vs. Roxy Petrucci and Jan
Kuehnemund. "Creative differences" is the cause..........
Geffen Records was ready to sign the band , but got wise to the
internal struggle and passed. Both factions want the name....
