| The first concert I saw was YES.
I had front row center, couldn't ask for better seats. It was in
Springfield (Ma.). It was a great concert, but the company I was
with wasn't to hot. I like Providence best around the New England
area. Boston Gardens is too big, and the Centrum doesn't allow
pyrotechnics.

Well, the first *BIG* concert I saw (over 2500
people) was Aerosmith, Pat Travers and Rose
Tattoo, none of which I like now, so . . .
Since, I've probably seen close to 100 big
concerts (again, that big word).
Favorite place is Providence (or Miami/Hollywood
Sportatorium). Favorite place for "smaller"
shows would have to be The Paradise.
Least favorite place is definately Oxford
Speedway (after this summers happenings).

My first concert was at the Kingston Fair Grounds. There was
five bands playing, and the main attraction was Blue Oyster Cult.
There was Mountain, Trash, Molley Hatchet and another that I have
since forgotten. Quite the concert too !
I would have to say that the Montreal Forum is a good place for
concerts - `BIG' ones anyways, but for smaller - around 10,000
people, would have to be the Saratoga Performing Arts Center in
Saratoga Springs, NY. It's an amphitheater and nicely kept. That
is about it.

244.11 | SMALL and big concerts. | PAR5::C_DENOPOULOS | | Wed Sep 21 1988 09:46 | 19 |
| My first "small" concert was at the Commador Ballroom in Lowell.
Grand Funk Railroad was playing. The most memorable thing about
it was the girl next to me. When Mark Farner (the guitar player)
took his shirt off (he was muscular) she went crazy and started
ripping at MY shirt and clawing me. I loved it but her boyfriend,
sitting on the other side of her, wasn't to thrilled. Later she
asked him to let her get on his shoulders and he said no. So, she
asked me. Naturally I couldn't refuse a beautiful damsel in distress
so I said yes.
My first "big" concert was Ten Years After at Harvard stadium. The
thing I remember most about that one is how much faster Alvin Lee
played I'm Going Home live as compared to the studio album.
Chris D.
P.S. as an aside, the girl mentioned above and I dated for a few
months after that and then split up. We remained friends for a
long time after that.

| My first concert was Heart/Orleans/Burton Cummings triple bill. It was
a free concert sponsored by WRKO (back then - *the* station to listen to!)
and was a free show on the Esplanade.
The only problem? They expected about 70,000 people. But it turned out to
be such a nice day (Sunny, 75) that over 275,000 showed up!!! It was
wild!!!
Burton Cummings had just released "Stand Tall" which was a hit, and
Orleans had a hit with "Still the One".
I remember Heart (who just released "Magic Man" as their first single)
was great! Nancy Wilson came out in a red dress, and she looked *hot*!
And Ann looked great then, too! As an encore, they played "Rock and Roll"
and "Stairway to Heaven".....wow, this brings back memories.....
BTW, the year was 1976 (or was it 1977?). I was 13, and I went in by
myself - my parent's dropped me off and picked me up at the T station in
Revere!

My first concert was Van Halen in Oct. 1982 on the Diver Down tour.
I went with 8 friends in a van to Worcester and had the best time.
That is still one of the loudest shows I've seen, having been to
about 50 shows, mostly metal.
The show was on a Saturday, the same day that we took our SAT tests,
so we were all ready to do some major partying. I remember walking
up to the front of the stage over on the side, and Eddie was standing
on the speakers right over me. It was incredible to see him wailing
that close. Couldn't hear very well the next couple of days, but
it was worth it.

| My first concert was UFO at the Phoenix Convention Center in 1980.
They were incredible! I love UFO to this day.
I was sick as a dog (not 'devil dog' references intended) with a severe
case of the flu, but went anyway. That few hours was the only time
that week I felt good. The Phoenix Convention Center is all concrete
and they had aluminum risers to sit on. It was soooo LOUD! There was
absolutely nothing in there but people to dampen the sound (I pity
their sound man...). You could hold your hands out and FEEL the music
beating on them. The entire riser (a pretty big one) vibrated!
It was a great start, even if it was a little late, I was 19.

My first concrt was at the Pheonix civic center(?), It's where
they usually have the world of wheels car shows. Anyway, it was
in 1976 and it was Graham Parker/Blue Oyster Cult/Bob Seger. This
was also for $5. The show started 2 hours late due to late arriving
equipment or somthing like that, GRaham Parker was boo'ed and cupped
off the stage, then it was announced Seger had a sore throat and
cancelled, but, BOC finally came on and said they would make up
for the troubles and they played for at least 2 hours or more. They
where really good and being only in 7th or 8th grade I was very
impressed.

No, no, no.....when Rob said the opening act, he meant that Ted was the
first band to ever play the Centrum.
But I'm still quite sure that it was Frank, 'cause it was a big opening
night celebration (the cheapest tix were $50!). I think Sweaty Teddy

Maybe I've got the year wrong because AC/DC and Judas Priest were not
on the same bill. Thought it was '78 it might have been '79. The Priest
gig was just prior to the release of "Killing Machine" and they were
supported by Iron Maiden who had Paul DiAnno up front and had just
released "The Soundhouse Tapes". The AC/DC gig was prior to the
release of Highway To Hell with Bon Scott at his very best. They were
supported by Def Leppard who had just released their 3 track E.P on

Well, you have the time frame correct. Just before Highway to Hell was
released (1978), AC/DC did a UK tour. Didn't know about any Lep shows
supporting, but I DO KNOW that JP supported the band on a few stops (at
least).
Judas Priest didn't hit the states (with Dianno-based IM) until 1980.
I know, I saw all US Priest shows, which started in 79 (Unleashed in
the East tour), and they returned in 80 with IM (British Steel tour),
in 81 with IM (Point of Entry tour), in 82 with Dickenson-based IM
(Screaming for Vengence tour), and again in 84 with Great White (aack!)
supporting (Defenders of the Faith tour).
Actually, I thought Iron Maiden were BRILLIANT back in the Maiden in
Japan/Killers days. They were even good on their Number of the Beast
tour. Thought they started to loose it on Piece of Mind, though.

As I remember the EHR/BTR gig was a most triumphant affair... that
would have been in the Summer of '78... 16 year old nugget with a
penchant for da less extreme punk!!!
Between '78-'80 I saw, Iron Maiden... (With Paul Di'), Wytchfynd, Girl
School, Psycadelic Furs, The Enid, Judas Priest, UFO (about 4 times),
Randy Calafornia, John Miles, A band called Heratage, etc..
The list for that time frame is pretty extensive, some of these bands
were excellent, but for the most part they were so wasted it was
unbeleivable... I saw Def Lep support Wytchfynd... or was it 'tother
way round... both were p*ss poor.

Not forgetting Hellenbach (g-g-great early Van Halen influenced stuff)
Tank (Algy Ward, where are you know?),Battle Axe etc.
Also,Killer (from Belgium),Heavy Load (from Sweden), Evil (from

My ears were literally ringing for 3 days, thought I was gonna go deaf or

re. 68
Maiden definately supported Priest on the UK dates of the "Killing
Machine" tour.....I've got the photos to prove it. The only reason I
remeber it so well is because my mate had won 2 tickets in a Sunday Mail
competition to meet Priest backstage before the gig. We met the band and
got photos, autographs etc etc...We missed most of the Iron Maiden set
because we were backstage but when they finished we also got Clive
Burr, Steve Harris and Paul Dianno autographs. By this time I was
totally gobsmacked...14 years of age...and meeting my heroes...ah they
were the days.
I remeber the AC/DC - Def Leppard gig because Leppard had just
completed a couple of dates in support of Sammy Hager in London. Prior
to that they had played their own headlining tour of small venues. I
saw them at Ayr Pavilion on that tour. Leppard were very good when they
opened for AC/DC but the most vivid memory I have of that night was Bon
Scott..mike in hand..strutting from one end of the stage to the other !
Songs like Touch Too Much, Sin City, Let There Be Rock, The Jack and
finally the loudest most OTT version of Whole Lotta Rosie I have ever
heard. Now those really were the days !!!!
re.72 Witchfynde & Fist
Saw both of these bands live during the upsurge of the NWOBHM...think
that stood for New Wave Of British Heavy Metal...or something along
those lines. Witchfynde I saw when they supported Leppard at Ayr
Pavilion...they were appauling...nuff said. Fist I saw supporting UFO
at Glasgow Apollo and they are still probably the WORST band I have
ever seen. Shocking to say the least.
Diamond Head are the only band from those days that deserved to make it
big..but didn't. Sean Harris' vocals were great and drew comparisons
with Robert Plant. Saw them live twice and both times the were
excellent. They recorded 3 albums..the first had no title but became
known as "Lighning To The Nations",it had a plain white cover and could
only be bought at there gigs. Think I paid 2 or 3 quid for it...not
sure now but an absolute bargain. The other 2 were proper studio albums
called "Living On Borrowed Time" and "Canterbury" both great albums
that I'd recommend to anyone. Just recently a BBC1 Radio1 In Concert cd
was released of the band. Might just have to purchase that one !
Derzo.
ps. Anyone remeber Praying Mantis, More and Vardis (the man with talc
in his hair!!)
What about that for a trio of the crapiest bands ever to (dis)grace a
rock stage !!

in NYC.
That concert was recorded and became the album "Renaissance - Live at

Not a "typical" rock concert by any means, much of the audience was
in suit+tie and formal dress (it was the first "popular music" concert
ever held at Carnegie Hall, a place that is steeped into the tradition
of classical music) and it was an incredible experience.
My next concert was Cat Stevens at Madison Square Garden. Then a Yes
concert at Roosevelt Stadium in Newark where two guys had a knife fight

244.137 | CRUE & VINCE STILL MY FAV'S | KDCA01::CDCUP_TORREN | | Wed Aug 30 1995 11:45 | 11 |
| Well, my first was The Stray Cats, I was just a little nard,
and went with my Mom, back around 1982 ( I was 11 or 12 )
Re-.135 The Crue, thats pretty funny, I think I have that concert
on a bootleg. Bands I've seen open for the Crue were, Shout-Accept,
Theater-Y&T, Girls-Whitesnake, Dr.-Warrant (Buffalo) Tesla (Toronto)
Johnny Crash & Lita Ford (Indiana) Ratt was suppose to open, but
they were just breaking up. The Crue was my first concert without
Mom.

My concert virginity is sorta in question, as my dad was a touring
musician and I went to many of the concerts he played in (jazz
and big band stuff). My parents have film with me in a playpen
at the Newport Jazz Festival, hanging with a bunch of other kids
who "belonged" to musicians...
My first rock concert, however, was in 72 or 73 at the Worcester
Auditorium. The headliner was T-Rex (with Marc Bolan), and the
opening act was some obscure Canadian band that I'd never heard
of before, but sounded a lot like Led Zeppelin. Their name was
something like "Wuss" or... oh "Rush", yeah that's it! :-) :-)
The opening opening act was Woostah's own "Albatross"; I knew
most of the members from hanging out at the old "Bean" music
store in Worcster, which used to be on Main Street (and later
on Park Ave where E.U. Wurlitzer is now)... my dad's recording
and music studio was in the "Day Building" a few doors down
from Bean... I remember touching my first Arp 2600 there (an
awe inspiring experience, at the time). I also purchased my
first "gigging" amp there, an Acoustic 360 with a massive
twin 18" cabinet...
MEM-O-REEEEEEEES.... gak! :-)

| Ok my first concert wasn't even what I'd call a rock concert...
my parents took me along...I must have been like 10 or something.
It was this Juice Newton/ Rick Springfield concert ...AAACCKK !
What was that song she sang..?? oh yeah "just call me angel of
the morn-ing ba-by...just touch my feet (or something) before
you leave...blah blah". Oh yeah and that big hit by Rick Springfield
"Jesse's bitch" or something oh yeh Jesse's Girl that was it.
The first real concert I went to wasn't until 1990 when I saw
Damn Yankees and Bad Company at the Centrum...which was actually
a really good show and I got in for free !

Y&T did open for them and then for AC-DC a few months after that.
What ever happend to them anyway. All I can remember from that band was
that summertime girls tune that they were playing every five minutes on
the radio that summer.

Ever notice that when people don't want to admit remembering a
song or performer, they pretend they don't remember the exact
name of the song, as if they don't like it any more?

Donavan? The Hurdy Gurdy Man was so Mellow Yellow. He did a
song about witches or something. It was a good song. My Mom turned me
onto Donavan.
I remember the Yes, Roundabout Tour. Everyone talked about that but
I didn't go. Neil Young with Crazy Horse did a good show about that
time, too. I went to that.

Ok, ok..... you were right Shawn. It was Shaun Cassidy,
at Tanglewood. I was ten years old. My aunt's neighbor
in Pittsfield took me. =)
I don't remember what my first rock concert was.....if I
had to guess, I'd say Heart.
And you're right Shawn. Rick Springfield still rules. I
read just recently that he'll be releasing a new album
soon. Next to Bon Jovi, I've seen Rick Springfield the
most times in concert.
Ok, the throwing of the tomatoes may now commence. =)

Accept! Man, I'll never forget doing whippets in Washington Sq. at 4am
and someone playing the Balls to the Wall album on their boom box. I
was like SO blown away, I became an instant Accept fan for life!
The followup album, Metal Heart, was very good, also. Too bad they
slipped into a formula after that.

I think they tried to go for the US audience and lost a lot of their
charm. When they booted out Udo and did the "big hair" then it was
their downfall.
their album with the barbed wire going through the lassies head was

| My first concert was Steppenwolf in Hartford, CT around '69. Then I saw Led
Zeppelin and Chicago Transit Authority on separate occasions at Yale Bowl, some
time in the very early 70s. (I still mourn the senseless death of Terry Kath.)
Around the same time period, I saw Rush and Kiss (separate shows) at the
Coliseum in New Haven. Awesome shows.
