235.2 | The dry boys from Boston | VICKI::SHIPPING | Remember... walking in the sand | Fri Sep 16 1988 10:58 | 17 |
| Well, I know the bad boys from Boston hit the bottle with the
best of them a while back, among other things. But I remember
an article in Rolling Stone or something like that a while ago
that read;
Steve Tyler and Joe Perry seen in bar, order Perrier with Lemon!
It told all about how they cleaned up their acts. Last year they
did all kinds of commercials saying don't drink & drive, and its
cool not to get wasted, get a job and all that stuff. Anybody
else remember an article like that?
Particularly with Aerosmith, they seem to have really cleaned up
their act. Anybody have any details? Anyone know any other groups
like them who have sobered up?

Fine stuff, ain't it? Fine, fine, fine...
Straight or with iced tea. Thats the way I started drinking it
in... in... well, along time ago...
The first time I tried it I was listening to "Born to be Wild".
I guess thats appropriate! Youre right, JD and rock&roll go
together like the beach and beautiful women.
I wonder if the big HM bands feel pressured to drink like fish.
(That might be like saying, I wonder if the big HM bands feel pressured
into bringing babes backstage...)

| I saw Guns 'n Roses with Aerosmith. What a dichotamy(sp).
Slash (guitar w/ g 'n r) must have drank 2 Pints of JD on stage.
Aerosmith, did drink Perrier!
I saw Aerosmith back when they were Fuc*ed up, and now. Wow have
they improved. On the Back in the saddle tour, It took half the
song to figure out what they were playing, Now they sound krisp
and cleen and they Jam alot onstage now. I know a lot of people
don't agree with me, but I think their music now is as good as or
better than it's ever been!

| Where's .1?
I've read several interviews recently with Eddie Van Halen which
said he and Alex were alcoholics, but since the start of Monsters
were dry. He said he used to pop a brew as soon as he got up in
the morning and continued all day.

It was a reply I put in about how Jack Daniels is all that really matters
to true rocka nd rollers. But after I entered it, I sort of thought it
was a worthless comment, so I decided to delete it.
But it looks like I was on the right track from the start!

| I completely agree. I don't really care what they do after the show,
that's their business, but if I pay good $$$ to get in, I want to hear
some good music and see a good show, not a bunch of intoxicated slobs.

235.10 | Talking about booze is one thing, doing it another | VICKI::SHIPPING | Remember... walking in the sand | Fri Sep 16 1988 13:46 | 14 |
| Couldn't have said it any better myself. If you go to a baseball
game, you don't expect the outfield to be hung over, the infield
to be stoned and the catcher to have an icepack on his head...
I have a relative of mine that for years was an alcoholic. Now
he doesn't touch the stuff at all. I respect him above most
people for doing that. The same way I respect Aerosmith now.
As for rock & roll jargon on drinking, in lyrics and in talking,
thats fine, and all in good fun. Being smashed on stage is another
thing!

Saw an interview with Steven Tyler yesterday :
Interviewer : "You must have made a *lot* of money"
Tyler : " Yup, millions"
Interviewer : "millions ????"
Tyler : "yup, millions"
Interviewer : "and where's it all gone ??"
Tyler : "up my nose !!!!! (laughing) I must have sniffed up the whole
of Peru!!!!"
agagagagaga !!!!!!
BTW - could we change the note to something like "Vices in metal"
or something, so that we can discuss things like this ??? peeerlease.

| Insert first line of "2 Late 4 Love" by Tesla *HERE*
Remember back when there were 3 things most bands were into other
than the music and 2 of 'em would kill ya but the other 1 was still
a pretty safe bet ? (we're talking drinking, drugging, and horizontal
recreation ...)
Seems like the deadliest "crack" of the 80's may not be narcotic.
This leaves the wise musician plenty of time but NO inspiration.
