    Ahhhhhhhh, a note to heart!

    DISC:

Street Lethal (w/Paul Gilbert as the only guit)
Second Heat (w/ 2nd guit Bruce Buillet added, new drummer also)
Extreme Volume - live lp to be released. Features `best of' from
the first two lp's, as well as live individual solos from Gilbert,
Buillet, The bassist (forget name) and the drummer (same).

    Band:

Jeff Martin - Vocals (Sounds like Halford, looks like Grahmn Bonnet)
Paul Gilbert - Guit (sounds like Yngwie/Eddie The V mixture)
Bruce Buillet - Guit (a student of Paul, sounds like paul sounding
                          like...)
John Alderte (?) - Bass (sounds like Jaco/Billy Sheehan)
Scott ??? - Drums (THE double bass master!!)

Rumor has it Jeff Martin and Paul Gilbert have left the band due
to musical differences. We'll see. I always thought this band
would be the next VH if they got proper bancking!

    Oh well,

Scary and Coop should also have an opinion...

Well Buck, you asked for it, so here it comes...

Racer X....

Well, If ya wanna go to Guitar school, make applications here... Include
SAT scores (Thats String Attack Techniques) (AgagagagagagagaaA)

Yep, Racer X is cool. If you don't like Speed Metal, don't apply. Racer
X is pure, straight ahead, extremely energenic speedie stuff. The guitar
work is obviously educated, as heard by the intricate scale work (ya know,
Lydian, mixolydian and all that foo-foo)... I'm not trained to play it,
but I can hear it when it's cranked. They're hot. End of issue.

Well jc, I have to agree with you. I also give
                Racer X a thumbs up :-)!

A hot band with a hot sound. I personally can't
wait for the live album. I heard rumors about
their new guitarist, and (get this one), he's
supposed to *smoke* Gilbert!! I'll have to hear
                it to believe it.

Don't know what happening for vocals though.

So they did find a new guitarist? Good (I guess). I liked P.Gilbert
quite a bit (when he wasn't copping Yng...). Looking forward to
future good stuff from them! Anybody know who the new guy is?

I heard the LIVE - Extreme Volume tape today. It's better than
the studio stuff IMO. It contains solos from all 4 members, needless
to say, the guitar solos shine. The thing that really impresses
me about this band is the harmony solos. The Maiden twins should
get this tape and pay attention. Racer X is like a Heavy Metal
version of the Blue Angels or the Thunderbirds. High speed group
    precision. Un-f*ckin-beleiveable !!!

When I got their 2nd album I couldnt believe the complex fingering
of the scales and all that sh*t. I was blown away. What is even
more amazing is the fact that no one really knows them.

In git mag for the Prac mus. They transcribed one of P. Gilberts
songs incld lead. There was a small box next to the lead which
said,"This was a task to transcribe." I think that might have been
    an understatement...but I could be wrong 8^)

Finally got to hear these guys last night. Bk loaned me a tape
that he got from Buck, It's marked Racer X on one side and Racer
X Live on the other side. So I gave the studio side a listen...
I WAS TOTALLY BLOWN AWAY. This is, to me, about as close as you
can get to guitar nirvana. I'm gonna listen to the Live side tonight
which, I presume, is the new live album???? Listening to this band
is like the advertisements you see with that guy sittin' in a chair
listening to his stereo and everything's like blowing away from
the sound coming out of the speakers. [good run on sentence huh?]

The live album is primo from a players viewpoint. Every song is
like 2 months of guitar lessons ! I tip my hat to Buck for turning
me on to them and again to him for helping me figure some of of
    the chops out.

PS - the guitar players out there will love the drum solo on the
live LP, it's very short ... doesn't take out much guitar time.

    (and members of 2EZ {or even ex-members Jerry!})

Much to my amazement, Paul Gilbert will be appearing at John B Lee
Music at the Greenville Mall, Thursday 27 October, starting at 18:00
    (6pm)

Wonders never cease to amaze me. Why would Gilbert come to a town

Whoever is going to see Paul Gilbert had *better
make sure he plays "Mean Street". It was
                absolutely *unbelievable* last night.

Too many people asked stupid questions last night
though (and even repeated them 2 or 3 times).
Great examples are, "How much did you make a year
playing with Racer-X", and this one was asked
about 10 times, "what kind of pickups are those
and what model kahler is that and what kind of
effects do you use???" Too many people thouh if
they played with the same equipment as PG, they
would be able to play like PG . . . yeah, right!

My Extreme volume tape may be dead, but he signed
the case and a picture. What the hell . . .
I'll have to definately buy the tape again now!

Well, if he isn't able to ake it as a guitarist,
he sure as hell will be able to as a comedian .
. . the guy is a riot!! Unfortunately, it
                wasn't much of a clinic, but I guess that's
because of the crowd. It was more of a name that
tune. He kept playing things and asking, "Does
                anybody know that one???"

He did do a fabulous rendition of the beginning
of "Wheel of Fortune". He sat there with his
scales screaming back and forth and goes "Look at
all the fabulous prizes!" Funny thing was it
                sounded just like the show!

I missed the first half because I sat around
waiting for a friend to show up. I sent him to
the wrong place so had to keep driving around.
After an hour of that, I said sc*ew it and went
in. He showed up 10 minutes later anyway.

He also does a great Yngwie. Someone asked, "can
you do Yngwie?" He asked how much the guy would
pay him and then proceeded to do a medley of
every Yngwie song ever written and packed it all
into a 3 minute version (well maybe not *every*
                song). :-)

                Um, what else . . . I didn't win a poster,
                shirt or a guitar . . .

That VH he did still was the best. I'm still
amazed. He played with Tony MacAlpine at a NAM
festival. I would have loved to see that.

Anyway, overall, he was a great guy and extremely
friendly and quite a comic. Kind of made you
feel like you've known him as long as you can
                remember.

Now, gotta get tickets for Vinnie . . .

    That's a cool album!

Of the solo performances, I thought that Gilberts takes your head off.
I really liked the bass players solo too. After that Boulettes, which
apparently a lot of people didn't like, but I did.

I thought that the singer sounded like his voice was about blown out
compared to the studio albums, not impressed at all.

Honestely, drummers don't blow me away too often. I can appreciate the
difficulty of the material for them and the sheer stamena required to
drum well, but most of the time it's not my thing. Drum solos
typically bore me, they should be kept short and sweet if they're done.

I suppose we all listen to different things... 8^)

A *proper* drum solo, done well, you wouldn't
worry about it being kept sort and sweet. Most
drummers out there today $uck, but there are a
few notable exception that I can deal with. #1
of course is Neil Peart, but Terry Bozio is also
the gnads, and Steve Smith as well. Jeff Porcaro
though not the most complicated stuff is pretty
inovative and Simon Phillips is cool. I could
listen to a fairly long and intricate solo by
them and not complian. As for Racer X, they guy
has some quick feet, but that's about it. Pete,
I see you complaining though, are you going to do
                better?

I think the drummer for Racer X is very good. What do you mean his
timing is bad?!? Hey, sit down with a metronome and Second heat and
tell me his timing is bad!!! As far as the live album goes..I agree
it has its weak points, but then again, I've seen instances where
Stuart Copeland and Carl Palmer has S**ked big time in concert, so,
every drummer has their days I say.

I really don't want to start another war Pete,
but as far as the double bass drum, that was just
one of his most obvious strong points I was
picking out. My point is 200% of 1000 is 2000,
even if he's only giving 50%, 50% of 8000 is
still greater than 2000... Pete, I'm not saying
you are a bad drummer or anything, and I realize
how much you pride your drumming ability, but you
are coming across like Ted Chapel (RC :') ) and
you can't back it up. Besides, Racer X's drummer
is making twice as much money in music as we are
combined... (well, maybe more than twice...)

And by the way, you spelled his name wrong.

    It is spelled:

Could someone explain to me how to do that routine when it does
    this type of thing;

    4 more lines

And until you hit return it stays unrevealed. I thought I figured
it out on the last reply but it didn't work. Thanx.
