| I too would classify Europe as metal and think that John Norham is a
pretty good guitarist. I just can't stand to look at 'em, their vids
make me wanna change channels (ASAP!). They're too "glossy", like
someone else said. Esp the singer, don't know his name.
The music is ok, but for the most part doesn't do anything for me.
Nothing very catchy or original to listen to. In the same genre, I'm
much rather listen to Poison. They don't take themselves so serious
and have some nice hooky songs.
Give me something to like, as Europe hasn't shown me anything so
far.

I must admit that I liked Europe when they first came out
and I bought their album (didn't get much airplay on my
cassette though).
BUT! Although I also thought Joey Tempest was a cutie
when he first showed up, I don't like him now. He's
all teeth and all eyes and very pretty. Pretty meaning
WITHOUT makeup. I just don't find him handsome...
They're an OK band, but their Final Countdown album
had something missing, IMO.

| I too liked Europe when they first came out but, I bought "The Final
Countdown" and Autograph's "Loud And Clear" on the same day. Europe
didn't get much stereo time at the Scaryhut for A WHILE. To me
Europe is like Poison, Autograph, White Lion, Tesla, and a bunch
more that are ALUMINUM as opposed to METAL or even HEAVY METAL.
It'll still hurt if ya get hit by it, it just won't leave any lasting
impressions - like say Priest, now we're talking METAL of the heaviest
variety !!!

I feel very much the same as those before me in this note, to start
off with Europe's 'Final Countdown' was impressive but now it has
died a death cos some of the tracks are catchy they just lack that
certain staying power to get airplay for more than just a few months
after release.
Perhaps John Norum made the right move, cos i have his 'Total Control'
album and it stands just as tall. In my opinion his version of 'Back
On The Streets', originally by Vinnie Vincents Invasion, is much
the better track.
I have all three Europe albums, and the tracks Stormwind, Wings
of Tomorrow and Seven Doors Hotel, knock the spots off anything
on The Final Countdown. Check out Scream of Anger, helluva track,
off their second album. I also agree the Kee Marcello is an excellent
guitarist.

Joey Tempest he said he doesn't like American musicians because
all they think about is there Looks and not the song content.

Well, I don't think any of these bands are 'heavy metal', IMO. Not that
we can't discuss them in this file, because there is an obvious metal
influence in their music. But again, IMO, they are NOT metal!

If they don't have anything new to say, or if they can't even copy
everyone else *well*, then I say they should give it up.
There really is too much mediocrity. I have no tolerance.
It's like, ok, we have our lether pants, our frosted hair and our

168.10 | WRONG GUITARIST GUYS!!! | WFOV11::ADAM_M | | Tue Aug 02 1988 01:48 | 18 |
|
The present guitarist for Europe is Kee Marcello, a fellow Swede
like the rest of the band. John Norum played all the guitar tracks
on the first and second Lp's including "The Final Countdown". John
left the band due to differnces with the lead singer, Joey Tempest.
When John left to pursue a solo career, they snatched up a popular
guitarist over there by the names of Kee Marcello. Since John quit
right before the tour, Kee had to learn all the stuff and fill in.
The new album is the first time we can actually hear what Kee
sounds like...i.e. his own style. So far from the single that's
out, (I forgot the name of It) he sounds pretty damn good.
A fellow Europe fan,

| I just bought the new Europe album yesterday for a quick injection
of roadmusic on my trip from OhiO. I really like the first album,
and could stand listening to a few songs off the second album, but
I must say I'm very impressed with the new album. I've only listened
to it twice, but the songs (maybe thanks to the influence of the
new guitarist are much stronger and infinitely less -- um, 'happy'(?)
than "Rock the Night" and "Final Countdown". Recommended for your
listening pleasure!
One complaint - Joey Tempest overdoes the "Oooh Baby"'s and
the "Oh Yeah"'s - they just aren't necessary;ask Geddy Lee!

in this note?) like Bon Jovi, Ratt, Cinderella and Poison are not
real Metal. It's just Loud P*P, which is geared to appeal to 14,15,

as pop as Dr. Pepper they are VERY talented musicians, I MUST give

| My theory as to why Europe kinda disappeared for a while is that
the their over usage of hair styling products, over the course of years,
built up to be such an enormous weight, that they were
trapped underneath their own chemically damaged hair for years. :)
But I did like their Final Countdown album a lot.
Yeh what was their other song, the slow one they had that started out,
ding ding dah ding,
dah dah dah ding,
ding ding dah ding...ding,
la dahdah dahdah dahdah ding dong
dah dah ding dong
dah dah ding dong
or something like that.
Shane, who thought their guitar player ruled...heard him play Flight of
