161.1 | Long Live .......... | RAVEN1::JERRYWHITE | Big Brother's watching you | Wed Jul 27 1988 07:39 | 8 |
| My fave has to be "Long Live Rock And Roll", classic Dio sound.
It has a mystical flavor to it like Dio's later stuff. This is
a good candlelight/headphone ablum to me, especially "Gates Of
Babylon".

161.2 | Don't forget my favorite! | POWER::STARR | aka HAZEL::STARR | Wed Jul 27 1988 10:26 | 15 |
| My favorite Rainbow album is the one not listed in the base note,
'Finyl Vinyl'. This is a 2-LP live set, which is comprised of live
cuts from vrious times in the bands history. Although it centers
on the era with Joe Lynn Turner, there is also some stuff with
Ronnie James and with Graham Bonnet singing.
Also very good is the video 'The Final Cut', which is a collection
of conceptual and live videos. Especially good on this is "Spotlight
Kid", "Power" (which has Richie going nuts on the poor Strat!),
and "Difficult to Cure" (which has an 80-piece orchestra rising
up behind the band to jam with Ritchie - great!). The conceptual
videos are only OK, but the live clips are some classic Rainbow.
(Unfortunately, nothing on the video with Ronnie James.)

Sorry I've forgotten "Finyl Vinyl", and I even have it on CD.
You seemed to like RAINBOW a lot, and I do also.
What did you think when DEEP PURPLE rejoined for Perfect
Stranger... coz I was kind of sad.

161.5 | bad sense of timing | POWER::STARR | aka HAZEL::STARR | Wed Jul 27 1988 11:15 | 9 |
| Well, although I saw Rainbow live, I didn't really start getting
into them until recently, so I was happy Deep Purple got back
together (especially when I saw them on the 'Perfect Strangers'
tour - they were hot!). But now I wish I could see Rainbow again,
especially since the last Purple album wasn't that great ('House
of Blue Light' -Zzzzzz).

My favourite rainbow album is "rising" dio's performance on this
is superb.I bought the first album and was dismayed with the mediocre
performance on it,the songs are good but the performance was very
plain. So I was reluctant to buy "rising" when it came out,but I
think it is one of the top albums I have bought.I would recommend
it to anyone.

161.8 | I'm always backward | CSC32::G_HOUSE | Gad, I just coughed up a cheese ball | Thu Jul 28 1988 11:36 | 7 |
| I was just the opposite. I got the first one and loved it, then
when "Rising" came out, I thought the songs there were rather droll.
That was before I played (or attempted to play) an instrument, so
I would have been listening to the songs, not analyzing the
performance.

album. (I can't remember the title offhand) - its German).

Ritchie blackmore was with 'em. He s*cked %#*@. The rest of the band

The one I know RJD is in are:
Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow
Long Live Rock'n'Roll
Rising
On Stage
The first ones in fact (not sure about "Down to earth"). Of course
you'll find RJD in the "Best of Rainbow" and in "Finyl Vinyl".

My favorite is "Kill the King" from "Long live Rock and Roll"
Of all the albums, "On Stage" perhaps, with Richie Blackmore blues.
I prefer the Dio / Bonnet albums, but Difficult to Cure is quite
good - esp the title track...When DP played at Knebworth in '85
they played this with Laser show of a handjiving Beethoven an' all!
ps. does anyone think the early Yngwie Malmsteen albums sound like
Rainbow rip-offs?

I really do found that Yngwie's "Odyssey" sound a lot like Rainbow with
Graham Bonnet. I think this is due to the voice. I think it's Yngwie's best
album, specially in terms of voice. It's the first time I really like his singer
His album is no longer a_lot_of_my_fantastic_guitar_playing_with_a_poor_voice
but a real album with guitar+voice+bass+drums(+keyboards)

Yngwie is a wicked Blackmore fan/clone! When he was in Alcatrazz, with Graham
Bonnet singing, they covered "Since You've Been Gone" and "Long Live Rock and
Roll". And I remember on the back of his first solo album, he noted Richie as
a big influence (along with Mozart and Bach, of course...).
I'll take Richie anyday.....

Turner added something extra to Malmsteen. He could sing a lot
better than the other guy Yngwie had. His songwriting helped Yngwie
on his last album. I would highly recommend "Odyssey".

161.25 | Looking for Death Alley Driver vid. | WFOVX5::JENKS | Welcome to where time stands still | Mon Jul 09 1990 21:38 | 21 |
| Has anybody out there seen the video for "Death Alley Driver"?
I have seen it only ONCE and that was on Night Flight way back when
the album first came out. I don't even think MTV has it! I would pay to
get a decent copy of it. It's got a road chase between a motorcycle
and a hearse. Ritchie's sitting in the back of the hearse with
his black top hat and his guitar standing verticaly in front of him.
He's got this evil grin on his face as he fingers the fretboard
while the hearse is speeding down the road! Then there's some scenes
with the band jamming in a graveyard! Amps and all if I remember
right. This is all intermixed with scenes of some kid playing the
arcade game Turbo.
BTW I met Ritchie in a hotel bar after Deep Purple's tour with
Joan Jett a few years back. We followed Ian Gillian's limo to see
where it would go. And what do you know... who was sitting in the
bar but Ritchie himself! He was the most softspoken person I've
ever met! Barely spoke above a whisper. Got his autograph and
picture too! That was a night to remember.

I'm pretty sure that its available video they put out as a companion piece to
the 'Finyl Vinyl' album a few years ago. It has some of the concept videos,
plus some live shots (including a great live version of "Difficult To Cure",
with a huge orchestra rising up in back of the band to jam on the song!)

| Maybe somebody can help me.
I'm looking for the Compact Disk of "Straight between the eyes".
I'm told, that it's an import from the US. I heard about a four
week long delivery to England, but I'm not sure, if it's the same
here in Germany.
So here is my question: could somebody please look if it's available
and how much it will cost.

I am reading this notes file for the first time. I am surprised that no
one has mentioned about 'Temple of the King' - my all-time favourite.
How come?
I thought it is one of the best Rainbow numbers.
