Due to my limited exposure to the Scorpions, these are the only
favorites I could think of:
1) The Zoo
2) No One Like You
3) Big City Nights
4) Rock You Like a Hurricane
5) Still Loving You
And these are in order - 'The Zoo' is my all-time favorite.

75.9 | ...I remember | CSC32::G_HOUSE | Greg House - CSC/CS | Fri May 27 1988 13:29 | 40 |
| I saw the Scorps back around 81-82 timeframe. What an amazing show!
The top bill was Ted Nugent, don't remember what album he was touring
for. It was in Phoenix.
The first band was Def Leopard, right after High and Dry came out.
Wow! The crowd had them back for two encores and they sounded
great! I thought that they'd take the show...
The second band was the Scorpions, this was right after Animal
Magnitism came out. They were utterly fantastic! Better then DL.
Crowd demanded 3 encores. I was sure by this time that Nugent would
have to be embarrased...
Nope. He musta played 3 1/2 hours, STRAIGHT. After these other
excellent bands...and topped their show! There was so much energy
in there the air was just crackling. Nugent puts on a better show
than just about anyone I've ever seen.
What a night! I'm sure they played overtime, concerts usually don't go
past midnight, but this one was at least 00:45. Thank what a show
you'd have if you could get this combination today!
Favorite Scorpions songs:
1) Still Loving You
2) Coming home
3) The Zoo
4) crud..can't remember it now, I've been thinking about it all
morning...
5) Virgin Killer
No particular order, Basically love everything on Love at first Sting,
great album overall. Really like the old stuff with Uli too...not
sure about the production on some of it. Apparently the had a lot
of problems with Dieter Dirks who produced a lot of the old stuff
and got away from him with Love... Not sure the whole story there,
anyone know more?

UNBELIEVABLE!!!! I was at THAT show!!!! That is one of my all
time favorite shows. Three absolutely rocking bands.....It was the
BALLS!!! We were on the floor just left of center about 12-15 crushed
people from the stage. I saw alot of shows in Phoenix and those
were some of the rowdiest crowds on the floor I ever saw. Phoenix
ALWAYS has (had??) general admision shows so you can always get
on the floor and party when you wanted to. I moved to Mass 2 years
ago and have seen a couple of shows here and with the reserved seating
the crowd isn't quite as wild. It just pisses me off because I can
never get floor seats and security won't let you on down there.
......But that was one show I will NEVER forget.

| Has anyone else noticed the odd attraction of the Scorps to non-metal
listeners?
Several of my friends absolutely hate metal and hard rock, but love
the Scorps. Especially "Love at First Sting". One of my old friends
is a diehard jazz head, but he loves this album.
Anyone have an explanation? This totally baffles me.

75.22 | Seriously... | MCIS2::AKINS | Big Bad Billy.....Sweet William now. | Fri Oct 21 1988 23:06 | 12 |
| I don't know why but I can speculate. I noticed when somene (who
isn't into metal) is looking through my tape collection he/she will
9 times out of 10 pick the Scorps. They even scoff at Judas Priest,
Iron Maiden or Metallica that is sitting in the tape box with the
Scorps. Could this have anything to do with what the Scorps said
when asked what it was like to tour with the boys from Van Halen.
They replied that VH wasn't serious music. I feel the reason Non-
Metalist like the Scorps is because they take their music as a serious
art form, not just a way to make a living.

75.23 | Do they really love it ? | LAVA::LALLI | Didier - ADG-Europe Valbonne ext. 5874 | Mon Oct 24 1988 04:12 | 19 |
|
Same problem in France.
In fact I admit that people say : "I love scorpions"
but I feel people should say : "I love scorpions' ballads"
I don't know if it happened in the States, but at the "Love at first
sting" period, they put out a mini-lp with 3 or 4 of the greatest
ballads they ever wrote. The album was called "Gold Ballads" it had the
same cover than "Love at first sting" but it's color was gold.
I've got to say that once you play a scorps heavy tune they can't
believe it's still scorpions...
Same problem with wimps loving only one (top-50) song of a band and
claiming they love the band.

| The Scorps are very popular with a lot of people that really are
not into metal. Not just ballads tho. I think the ballads may be
the reason some of the lightweights buy the albums but the other
songs keep 'em coming back.
When I was a soph in high school, the Scorps were playing with
Quiet Riot, Me, Dix, Zoo, and Boo Boo, had like 6 extra tickets
and had a rough time deciding who to give 'em to. None of us had
girlfriends, but three of us did after the show,we also met our
good friend snatch at this concert, "Like yo dudes, you going to
Colorado Springs, cuz like I really need a ride". IMO the Scorps
are one of the best live bands live and they DO attract a diverse
crowd.

75.26 | Discography | ROCKON::RADLER | | Mon Oct 24 1988 15:26 | 47 |

Someone asked for a discography so here goes:::
1)Lonesome Crow (featuring Mike Schenker, Rudolph Schenker
Klaus Meine and a bassist and drummer that
I can't remember from memory)
2)Fly to the Rainbow (Ulrich Roth replaces M.S., Frances
Buschold(?) replaced the other
bass player and another drummer
replaced the other one I couldn't
remember)
3)In Trance (Ulrich Roth, Klaus Meine, Rudy Schenker,
Frances Buschold(?) and Rudy Lenners replaces
the second drummer I can't remember)
4)Virgin Killer (Same Line up as In Trance)
5)Taken By Force (Rudy Lenners is replaced by Herman
Rarebell)
6)Tokyo Tapes (Same lineup as Taken By Force)
7)Best of Scorpions Vol 1
8)Best of Scorpions Vol 2
* Ulrich Roth decides to leave and become solo artist. He can't
seem to get along with Herman Rarebell. Doesn't like his
crude lyrics. Wants to do more Hendrix type material.
9)Lovedrive (Micheal Schenker temporaraly and Mathias Jabs
replace Ulrich)
10)Animal Magnetism (Same lineup as Lovedrive with only
Mathias)
* Scorpions take extended vacation as Klaus Meine has serious
throat problems but the band sticks together and decide to
give Klaus all the time he needs to recuperate. Klaus has
throat operation and finally returns better than ever with..
11)Blackout (Present lineup)
12)Love at First sting
13)World Wide Live
14)Savage Amusement
I guess that is it for full length albums.
My favorites are Taken By Force and Virgin Killer from Uli
days and Love at First Sting and Blackout from present. Least favorite
is Savage Amusement.

The Scorpions have to be my favourite HM group of all time, i have

narrowingly missing it a couple of times at record fairs. I have
all the Picture Discs they have released. I have a bootleg album

75.31 | Scorpions Live | CASEE::LALLI | Didier - CASEE Valbonne - ext. 5423 | Tue Feb 14 1989 07:03 | 21 |

Their concert in Marseille (4-feb-89 France) was excellent. They had a
fantastic light show, and an incredible good sound.
They played all their lastest along with some old classics (Blackout,
Bad boys running wild, still loving you, big city nights...). They
also played Holidays (the whole song, not only the beginning like
during last tour).
They didn't change their stage attitudes at all, but they are good.
We've got a drum solo (played on an electronic kit), a mathias-herman
duo, and then a guitar solo which was as usual, not very good (IMO). I
never liked very much his playing and its attitude. Claus & Rudolf
were the best but they always are ;-).
Along with VIXEN, SCORPIONS gave me a very good time.
That's Rock n Roll !

75.33 | Savage Amusements Live | KROKUS::GREID | | Mon Feb 20 1989 06:43 | 58 |
| Hey i hafta agree with you there...
I have just bought the new Scorps Vid' called "To Russia with love
and other Savage Amusements", it's well smart.!! The vid id 45mins
approx' and deals exclusively with their tour in Russia. There are
loads of interviews and films of the band playing live and mixing
with the soviet people. They also take a look at the state of the
music scene in Russia and some places where local bands get to gig.
The video contains the following tracks :-
Blackout (live in Leningrad).
Rythme Of Love (the official video)
Rock You Like A Hurricane (most of the original video
plus shots of the band
live in Russia)
Believe In Love (The video)
Holiday (live in Russia)
Walking On The Edge ( An unreleased video)
The Zoo (The band playing live in a Russian club)
Don't Stop At The Top (No music scenes just camera's
following the band around
, also filming at local darby
between the Scorp's and the
support band (FOOTBALL))
Long Tall Sally (A live jam in concert with support
band Gorky Park)
Media Overkill (aka Dont Stop At The Top, plus some
live footage of the band playing
the track)
Passion Rules The Game (the new video)
We Let It Rock (end titles and shots of the band
playing live in various halls)
The video is greatly entertaining and very much and essential
purchase for the average Scorpions fan. One of my favourite
moments are the brief glimses of the band playing 'Coast To
Coast' live (one of my all time favourite instrumentals).
The band give a great insight into how music relates to the
Russians in every day life, and also how the restrictions
and barriers are being lifted on peoples rights in Russia
due to Glasnost (or however it is spelt).
The only disappointments with the video, is the fact that
i was looking forward to seeing the whole of 'The Zoo' live
and turns out just to be a soft jam session in a local club.
Also we still dont get to see the whole of the song "Holiday"
, they have just done the accoustic piece again, very much
the same as in 'World Wide Live'.
Go on , go get yourself a copy............

I can't believe it!!!!
I got home on Friday night and saw a message saying I had to call
my mom as she had some tickets for me.
She had two Scorpions tickets for me for the following night -
complimentary from R210 !!!!
Me and MoshmuffDuckula had a mega time. Here's my verdict :-
Vixen rocked. The bass player is gorgeous and IMHO the best looker
of the band. She is a good bass player and did a good solo with
lots of tapping and was very bluesy. The guitarist was nothing to
write home about but the drummer was awsome!!! She was twirling
sticks at every moment she had me mesmerised - she also did a short
but sweeeeeet solo - which *didn't* bore me (surprise!). Their
overall sound was very good, and had me clapin' and screaming.
They may not be the female Malmsteens etc.. but they cut grooves,
and thats all that counts in my book.
The Scorpions had an awsome light rig. They came blazing on stage,
lights flashing and dry ice flowing. I have to say that Shenker
is absolutely MAD on stage - that guy has an unlimited energy supply.
Klaus was on good form but I was disappointed with Jabbs. I know
he took the majority of the solo's but he seemed like he wasn't
enjoying playing where as everybody else was. A couple of funny
parts - Shenker busted a string on his black/white Flying V and he
didn't notice - suddenly he goes darting off stage only to emerge with
another V. Also, when they did an instrumental Klaus came on stage
with a Les Paul, which I SWEAR was either not plugged in or had the
volume on 0, because when Rudy and Matias were soloing there was not a
hint of rhythm guitar in the background. The show lasted for +/- 2
hours and was killer.
A couple of people didn't manage to hang about for the two encores
- a mean muthaf!"$% of a security guard beat the s!" out of them
and threw em out!
And to top it all of, we bought Queensryche tickets and got fourth
row from the front!! I'm physched!!!

Well guess what ? I was wrong. I did not see Scorpions and
Vixen last night. I saw Scorpions and House of Lords. So much
for my infallible source! Anyway......
The House of Lords:- Quite good overall the only bad point
was the mix was a bit to much drums and not enough Guitar. It
might have worked for some people but I found it to be more
irritating as the night went on. The Drummer though was
Excellent. Vocals were done well even if the guy looked and
acted like a complete Pillock.
Now to the point:-
THE SCORPIONS
This was even better than the Scorpions on the "Animal
Magnetism" tour. Everyone went out there to kick a$$ in the
most impressive fashion. Jabbs was great the whole night as
was Meine. (sp?) Rudy looked a bit silly with the haircut
but WTF it's him that has to go out with it. The bass player
I think Francis Bushels (sp?) was boring until the encores
coz that's when I started to hear the Bass Guitar. As for
Herman.... What can I say Boring as Hell To watch but he is
good. Not the showman of many of todays modern Drummers but
still he held the whole gig together.
This is all MHO of course and anyone who wishes can disagree.
I am still a bit pi$$ed at not getting to drool over Vixen
though. ;')

I'm trying like crazy to find out the name of a Scorpions' song
and what album it's on.
I heard it about 5 years ago (give or take), and I can hardly remember
much about it other than that I liked it. I tried to search for
it at one time, never found it ('cause I don't know the right title),
but want to try again, seeing as someone in here might be able to
help me out.
I have very little to go on, but....... I remeber the chorus (well,
I dunno if it was the chorus, but I think the line was sang more
than once) had the phrase "Love me 'till I'm down" with the last
"dooooowwwwwwnnn" being real drawn out. I also remember the guitar
riff being very bouncy (is that what I mean?) or vibrato, not the
"power chord" type of riff.
Does this ring a bell with any Scorps experts? Is there a song
even remotely resembling this, or is my memory out to lunch?

It was a 3 band concert with Quiet Riot, and Rainbow. Quiet Riot was
good too. I thought Ritchie Blackmore s*cked but the rest of the band

| I picked up FLY TO THE RAINBOW and VIRGIN KILLER last night. I
listened to FTTR. It was allright. What I do like about it is that
by listening to the older tunes and newer ones and the ones in between,
you can see how the bands music develops over a period of years. You
can also notice a variety of the influences that the mechanics,
available over the past 15 years, have played in the sound this band
has produced. I think it's great. I've got a couple more tapes to get
and I'll have them all. Anybody have any idea where I can pick up
"LONESOME CROW"? What year was this released? FLY TO THE RAINBOW was
copyrighted in '74 and LC was before it.

"Lonesome crow" is strange (kind of flower-power psychedelic type of
music) but not that horrible. At least you have both Schencker brothers
playing in it. (like in most of the "Lovedrive" good tunes).
I'm pretty sure "Tokyo tapes" contains a tune from "lonewsome crow"
it's "In search of a piece of mind" or something like this.

I have seen the 'Action !' album, it is a bootleg only released specifically
in Europe (eg, France,Germany), i have at least 5 other bootleg albums, mostly
live stuff. There is also an album called 'Gold Ballards' which was a special
release after 'Love At First Sting' it contains five tracks, and isn't too
expensive. I cannot remember exactly the tracks but two of them are 'Always Some
where' off of 'Lovedrive' and 'Still loving You' off of LAFS. I have a bootleg
album called 'Scorpions live at the Hippodrome '81' recorded in Paris during
the 'Animal Magnetism' tour, the sound quality is very good.

That was my first Scorps album as well. The playing is great but

A review of the Scorpions/Great White/Trixter show:
Got there a little late, only caught the last three songs by Trixter
(including their two hits, "One In A Million" and something else that I
recognized). They were pretty boring, very standard stuff. The guitarist is
pretty lacking - not that I'm a big fan of technical ability, but the genre
he's playing in sort of demands it, and he couldn't play for sh*t! Otherwise,
a totally mediocre band with some mediocre (albiet catchy) songs.
Great White was a nice suprise, although that's mayeb because I wasn't
expecting a whole lot. They opened with "Call It Rock and Roll", ended with
"Once Bitten, Twice Shy". I was suprised (and a little disappointed) that they
didn't do "House Of Broken Love" - but on the flip side, they did a pretty,
acoustic version of "Save All Your Love".
The band alternated between stupid Spinal Tap-like gestures, and some sincere
rock and roll. I was pretty impressed by the lead guitarist - he seems to know
his limitations, and works within them *very* well! Unlike so many guitarist
today, he doesn't play as much as he's can - but instead uses his arsenal
sparingly, mostly applying tasteful little licks. Nothing special, but its
nice to hear someone that doens't feel he has to go overboard on every solo.
Scorpions were a mixed bag. I thought they started awesome, went downhill, then
salvaged the night towards the end. They opened with a pretty faithful version
of "Tease Me, Please Me", and played a couple new songs and a couple old
songs ("The Zoo"). The show was really cooking along, and they just seemed to
get better as they went.
But then - Rudolph Schenker did this long (boooooring) solo, with just a touch
of keyboard behind him. Schenker is not the lead guitarist his brother is, nor
even as good as Mathias Jabs. This section went on way too long, and took away
all the momentum they had going. After this they did a sort of lame version
of "Can't Live Without You".
It was only towards the end that things started to pick up again - a rocking
version of "Breakout", and then an explosive version of "Dynamite" picked
things back up, and put them back on track. "Rhythm Of Love" and "Big City
Nights" were in there somewhere, and they ended the set with "Holiday" (sort
of strange way to end). Then did the pre-requisite encores of "No One Like
You" and "Rock You Like A Hurricane".
Biggest disappointment - they didn't play "Still Loving You". 8^(
Overall - they were good, but not as good as they can be. The middle section
really wore thin. On the other hand, the mix was pretty good, Klaus' voice
was in fine shape (as always), and they had a spectacular light show (really!
one of the best I'd seen in a while! I love those Vari-Lights....)

I forget, but I know they used to run together "Holiday" and "Still Loving
You". I think -.2 is right, in that they seemed to run short of time, and
maybe cut a couple songs from the setlist. It seemed like there was a looooong
wait after GW before the Scorps took the stage......(but then again, the show
ended at 11:20pm, so they still had 10 minutes to play with.....)

AND what is it with Mattias Jabs? Every new song I hear from them he

He used to have a cool sound of his own, but seems to be losing it

I heard a song on WGIR a couple weeks ago, that sounded pretty good,
but I couldn't tell who it was. Then I heard a slight hint of Klaus
Meine's accent (or at least I thought it was) and I'm thinking "Is
this the Scorpions?" It sounded like a completely different singer
through 99% of the song. But every so often I'd hear that
UNMISTAKEABLE accent for a couple seconds. Almost sounded like he was
doing that on purpose. Could have been another singer I guess, trying
to immitate him... I don't know. Did a Helluva job if it was.

to tame his guitar sound on the new albums so much that you can't
really tell. He's stuck in the background all the time.

The SCORPIONS have just had a new release issued here in the UK
called "Face The Heat" (I think), I'm off to get the CD at lunch time,
apparently it's back to their old Heavier self, which can only be a
good thing IMO. I do like most of the new stuff but couldn't get into

| Yeah, they've been playing that "Alien Nation" song about every 10
minutes on the rock stations around here. I'm sorry, but I can't stand
it. The lyrics are so horrendously stupid... I have yet to hear
anything within the last 2-3 years by the Scorps that I like. Too bad
'cause Mattias has grown as a guitarist and is quite skillful now
(although I think he sounds a bit too much like George Lynch now). His
cool playing is lost on the lameness of the new songs.

I *like* the Scorps, I just don't like this band that's taken over

Gimme "Animal Magnitism" or "Virgin Killer", now *that's* the Scorps.

Also the first tour I saw them on. They were very good then. I really
like the old material with Uli Roth on guitar though. He had an
excellent style that added a lot to the band. While Mattias Jabs is a
fine guitar player, his style has always sounded kind of generic to me.

I had a chance to see them at Big Mack in Denver last night,
and as allways they were great. I was glad they played a lot of their
older material. I'm not too hot on the newer stuff. They did a
accoustic set with Holiday, Under the same sun, and Still loving you
that was awesome. The Zoo, and Can't Live are allways great live!!
King's X opened up but I did not get to hear them, so nothing on them.
I think this tour is deffinately worth catching if you get a chance.

75.234 | Deadly Sting.....> | RDGENG::GREID | All that is, was and will be... | Thu Sep 07 1995 02:11 | 21 |
| Actually, they have recently released an album called "Deadly Sting"
which contains the following plus a few others :
Coming Home, Rock You Like A Hurricane, No One Like You, Lovedrive
Bad Boys Running Wild, I'm Leaving You, Passion Rules The Game,
China White, Loving You Sunday Morning, Dynamite, Can't Live Without
You.
It's a good selection, especially for people like me who only started
buying CDs three years ago and have yet to get most of the stuff I
really like. Having 500 LPs is going to take some time to update to
CD.
My only disappointment with "Deadly Sting" is that they murdered the
guitar solo in the middle of China White, which was a classic. I can't
believe they would even wish to balls it up like they did, it didn't
need changing.
Grumble, grumble...
Giles.

It sounded like they had re-mixed "Lovedrive" and "Loving You
Sunday Morning", though they havent been changed in any way, thankfully.
How "The Zoo" wasn't included beats me, it would seem a
number one candidate but yet again it was missed. In fact nothing from
Animal Magnetism was used at all. I liked the album FWIW.

Well they needed a remix though as "Lovedrive", as an album, had quite
a thin sound to it. As for "The Zoo" I must be one of the few who dislike
that song.
