1579.0. "Need info on Elan GC 6.1 skis (won in a raffle)" by UNIFIX::FRENCH (Bill French 381-1859) Sat Mar 01 1997 15:23

My daughter won a pair of skis at a pub in Portsmouth a couple of
nights ago. Can someone tell me what type of ski they are?

They are an Elan GC 6.1 173X (I assume the 173 is the length in cm.)

She no longer skis but snowboards exclusively, so has no use for them.
I am in the market for a new pair of skis but am not sure these are
enough ski for me. Presently I am skiing on a pair of Rossi STS
185 cm that must be about 7-8 years old. I'm sure that some will
say that the 185 cm STS is too small for me. (I weigh about 220
lbs), but I have been happy skiing on them. I also do well on
    my son's Rossi 4S (203?) cm skis.

The Elan's that my daughter won are a noticeable but not severe
parabolic. I have demoed parabolic skis a couple of times and
enjoyed them, and realize that a parabolic will be somewhat
    shorter that a conventional ski.

Am I silly to think of putting bindings onto these Elans and using
them myslef? I am a strong intermediate, over 50, avoid bumps
and prefer to cruise steep groomed trails. At my age, weight and
less than perfect knees, I don't aspire to ever become a bump skiier.

If using these skis myself borders on the absurd, my daughter will
find another home for them, otherwise they are mine.

Will these be significantly less appropriate for me than
my current Rossi STS 185cm. skis? 'Cause, if not, the price is right.

    Thanks,

    Bill
