The Powerstorm 3D30/4d20 NT 4.0 driver is final. V4.0 of the driver
came out in November. V4.1 was released at the end of January and it
included a substantial amount of bug fixes. See the Web site
(www.service.digital.com/open3d/) for external needs or our internal
ftp site (nt3d.zko.dec.com; cd \tga ; file tgav41.zip)
First thing to check then is to make sure they are running the V4.1
version of the driver. Also check that they are running NT 4.0
service pack 1 or later.
Check what version of Office 97 they are running. Is it a beta alpha
native version or the Intel version under FX!32. Make sure they aren't
running a beta of the Office 97 and check what version of FX!32 they
are running. V1.1 is the current release.
We haven't run Office 97 on alpha yet ourselves as we were waiting
for word they it worked in general. Last I heard, there were problems
running it under FX!32.

1252.2 | Substantially correct... | NETRIX::"[email protected]" | Adrian Moore | Tue Mar 04 1997 22:50 | 15 |
| Hi,
You've hit the nail on the head I feel. They ARE running FX32! v1.1, and the
v4.1 video kit. The apps, however, are from Office 95 (Intel build) and Office
4.3 (In the case of Word 6, Intel build).
Is this issue likely to be resolved with an escalation? Is there a limitation
on our level of responsibility built into running Intel code on FX32! when
there is a problem only with the PowerStorm 4d driver? A Powerstorm 3d30 works
fine and so the problem appears to be 4d (or driver) specific.
Thanks & regards,
Adrian Moore

It sounds like the customer isn't doing anything outrageous so an
escalation is probably appropriate. I'm have someone start looking at
it but I'd like to see a clean description of the environment before
we chase it too far. You didn't answer me on whether or not service
pack 1 is installed. It should be and double checking on all the software
versions and where it works and doesn't would help narrow down our search.
Is it workstation model specific? We've seen differences in the past
caused by CPU speed difference, firmware revisions, etc. All those
things will help us in case we have trouble reproducing it. Our QA
lab does test with Office apps and hasn't reported this yet.
Thanks,
Garry

1252.5 | Reproducing? | NETRIX::"[email protected]" | Adrian Moore | Tue Mar 18 1997 19:44 | 10 |
| Hi,
I've finally scraped up the hardware for this so I may be able to provide more
info soon or formally IPMT it. Just out of curiosity - did anything pop up
from your lab repro yet?
Thanks & regards,
Adrian Moore

1252.6 | Not reproducible, EV4 / Ev5? | NNTPD::"[email protected]" | Adrian Moore | Fri Apr 18 1997 07:29 | 14 |
| Hi,
I cannot reproduce the problem. The problem is this:
1) Word won't display BOLD characters using 100% view,
2) Excel won't display the row numberings.
Is there a compatibility concern between the EV4 and EV5 processors and the
PowerStorm 4d20?
Thanks & regards,
Adrian Moore
