1249.0. "ffbTGA2InitProc: failed to get memory for 0 dma_map's ...any ideas?" by PEACHS::WORD (developer of the 55 minute hour...) Thu Feb 20 1997 12:19

A customer has an Alpha Station 500/266 with PowerStorm 3D30.
He upgraded from dunix 3.2C to dunix v3.2d1 and re-installed Open3D 3.2.

After kernel rebuild and reboot, the screen flashes and then comes up with
the ascii login prompt; no login box and no Xserver.

We ensured that the O3DDWSZLXE320, O3DDWSZLXL320, and O3DDWSZLXM320 subsets
are installed.

sizer -gt output is: zlxp2-ev5 (which I believe is correct)

The xdm-errors files contains these lines:

fatal server error ffbTGA2InitProc: failed to get memory for 0 dma_map's

Any ideas about what the error message means?

Would disabling DMA (-I -ffbDoDMA 0 or 4) help?

First, Open3D did not support either the PowerStorm 3D30
*or* the AlphaStations 500/266. These were supported for
the first time in Open3D v3.3.

Second, the lastest version of Open3D for UNIX 3.2x is
v3.4. When upgrading, it's best to use the most current
    release.

So, try that and see if his luck improves.

Gosh darn it, you're absolutely correct! I was laboring
under the misconception that the 3D30 was supported in
3.2.

The customer has upgraded to 3.4 O3D and this did correct
the problem.

thanks again!
