<<< WRKSYS::SYS_TOOLS:[NOTES$LIBRARY]ALPHASTATION500.NOTE;1 >>> -< AlphaStation500 >- ================================================================================ Note 167.0 Sound Card configuration - How ? No replies PEACHS::BECHTOLD 21 lines 27-FEB-1997 17:36 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have a customer with an AlphaStation 500 system that is trying to use DUnix V4.0b and Multimedia Services V2.2. But, we can not get the Sound card to configure under the kernel. At the SRM console we enter "SHOW CONFIG" and there is no PCXBJ device or ISA2000. - How is the embedded Sound Card configured into the system firmware for the AlphaStation 500 ? - Is it on the hidden EISA Bus, if so what slot, and does the ECU need to be run to configure the device ? - To run the ECU do you enter "runecu" at the console prompt or is it run in another manner ? I just looked at the AlphaStation 500 Owners Guide and it does not even mention the Sound Card or how to configure it. Any help is appreaciated. Dave Bechtold DTN 343-1216

A person in workstations told me that you might be able to type "fix" at the >>> prompt. else you would have to run the ecu. I presume there is either a "runecu" or "ecu" command at the >>> prompt. The slot shouldn't matter, since its still really an isa device. I couldn't find anything in the User's Guide or Service Guide either. -Chip

Basically it says to run "fix_eisa_config" or "ecu".

Yes, if you haven't done so already, run ECU at the console prompt >>>. Of course, you will need the ecu diskette, which came with my Alcor, but not with the Bret. You will need to configure/add the ISA board, and if it is the sound board that came with the system, rather than a newly installed one, pick the microsoft sound board. I put it at slot 4, though maybe it would have worked elsewhere too. Just seemed to recall something about slot 4 with the Alcor, so I tried that on this and than ran the verification procedure for the MME kit, and everything finally worked. Definitely not intuitive though... PeterT |
