I have a customer who has an alphastation 600 5/266 , running Digital Unix 4.0 rev386 and MME220. He has two J321 cards installed and they appeared to be configured as jv0 at pci0 on slot 7 and jv1 on pci0 at slot 12. He is trying to record and play. He fires up the first window and the picture is fine, he fires up the second window and the picture is fine. Then if he uses his cursor to highlight the second window and clicks the window goes blank and he loses what ever picture he was looking at. I checked both /var/adm/messages and daemon.log for errors but nothing logged. Although the messages file does mention the av subsystem is configured. MMEDRVAV subset is installed as is most of the MME subsets. According to note 232 there are some changes that need to be made to a stanza file to configure a second j300 although the format of the file appears to have changed since the older version of MME. Anyway here is his stanza file... Subsystem_Description = jv3 device driver (Motion J320 Board) Device_Dir = /dev Device_Char_Major = Any Device_Char_Minor = [0-1] Device_Char_Files = mv[0-1] Device_User = root Device_Group = 0 Device_Mode = 600 Module_Config_Name = jv Device_Char_Open = jvopen Device_Char_Close = jvclose Device_Char_Ioctl = jvioctl Device_Char_Select = jvselect Device_Char_Funnel = DEV_FUNNEL Do I need to change this file to be able to configure a second card? or is there something else that I should get the customer to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks Avril

I'm not sure what you mean by "he loses whatever picture he was looking at." Is it the one that he clicks on or the other one that he "loses?" Does the application crash or does the window disappear or does something happen to the color map which causes the picture to become invisible? What application is he using? You shouldn't need to do anything special to configure a second card. If you can get complete information on what is happening, the best thing to do is file a PTT so that the problem gets some attention. Tom | |||||

Hi, This is a more detailed description of the customers problem. Problem with running two MME windows. I have two JV321 cards in DEC AlphaStation 600 5/266 running DEC Unix 4.0 . If I use the command lines: viddualrecord -filename rec.avi -outputfomat x8 -visual p8 and vidplayout -filename recorded.avi -device 1 -outputformat x8 -visual p8 two video windows appear. The first, from viddualrecord, contains a picture from a camera connected to the input port on the first card. The second, from vidplayout, contains a the contents of the file recorded.avi that had been recorded earlier. If I move the mouse pointer into one of the windows then nothing changes. If I then move the mouse pointer into the other video window then the the onethat the pointer has just entered turns a uniform red. This window remains red when the pointer leaves it, and the first window continues playing if the pointer is moved back into it now. This occurs regardless of the order in which the windows are opened and regardless of which of the video windows is the first entered. I am now leaving the company so someone else will be taking over this for me. So thanks for all your help. Avril Unix Support Group |
