2730.0. "%GKS-E-ERROR_26 in new processes" by BARNA::DSMAIL () Fri May 09 1997 05:56

    Hello:

    A customer with VMS VAX 6.2 , Motif 1.2-3, GKS 6.2 has intermitent
    problems.

    When the problem is manifested the execution of any example of the
    GKS$EXAMPLES gets the error %GKS-E-ERROR_26 if executed in a recent or
    new process. If the execution is in a procces that is logged in from
    a long time, works ok. The customer aplication has the same symptoms.

    If he execute the DECW$EXAMPLES:ICO works ok.

    After reboot the system the problem goes away and it returns after one
    week or more.

    The customer has revised the points described in the TIMA article
    Troubleshooting GKS Error 23 and 26: Open Workstation Problems and is
    all correct.

    Any ideas?.

    Cristbal.

2730.1GKS V6.2 is old now - upgrade to latest (V6.5)BGSDEV::CROCKERBen Crocker, GKS proj. leader, 381-1909Tue May 13 1997 16:1923
GKS V6.2 is pretty old now (late 1995); the latest version
is V6.5 (see note 2535.30).

Since V6.2, numerous problems have been fixed, including
some that may have some bearing on the problem your customer
has observed.

I suggest that you install GKS V6.5 and look for the problem
again. If it recurs, check some basic things:

1) GKS$WSTYPE and GKS$CONID set to reasonable values;

2) GKS license installed and loaded;

3) if the GKS license is limited in the number of users who
   can use GKS simultaneously, make sure this limit is not
   being exceeded.

I don't have access at the moment to the TIMA article you
refer to, so please excuse any repetition . . . .
