My wife (a violinist and violin teacher) suggested Shannon Strings
(a repair shop) in Concord if you want an actual professional appraisal.
This would probably cost somewhere between $30-$50 or a % of the
appraised value of the instrument - she wasn't sure exactly how they
charge.

| Skinner's on RTE117 in Stow is the world's leading authority on
antiquity in general. They also appraise old and rare instruments.
They advertise in every world renown magazine on antiquities and
in addition they are auctioneers for these items. I brought an old
violin and mandolin there once and they were very thorough on the
history and current value. Call em
