3229.0. "Popping problem with Fender Amp at shutoff" by EPS::DEANE () Tue Sep 03 1996 13:42
Maybe this has already been discussed in this conference. If so,
point me at the right note...
I have a Fender Pro 185 Solid State Guitar Amp. It makes a LARGE
popping sound whenever I turn it off. If the amp volume was set high
it would probably blow the speakers. I called Wurlitzer and
Daddy's Junky Music. They said to call Fender. I called Fender and
they said "that's the way they work". The rep knew EXACTLY what
I was talking about from the get-go. He said to minimize it:
1) turn off the reverb
2) switch to the "clean" channel
3) turn down the volume
I thought, gee, why don't I stand on my head and start singing a
song too before I power down!!!
So, since this is such a "common" problem, one of you machine-heads out
there must have solved this problem ala a soldering iron and some
minor electrical engineering. Anyone got a solution to this? Like caps
across the power switch? Or relays just before the speakers? Let me know.
Personally, I think the Fender amp is poorly designed to allow a transient
like this to occur at all...

| My Fender Performer 1000 (MOSfet power amp section) does the same thing.
I've "adjusted" by teaching myself to unplug the guitar at the amp before I
shut down.
Just one of those things...
