3213.0. "Bass site reading aid" by TMAWKO::BELLAMY (I don't wanna pickle ...) Fri Jun 28 1996 12:27

As an aid to learning to read bass clef (again! ... used to read it pretty well
when I played Sousaphone in Junior High), and to help with reaching my goal of
being able to instantly locate any of the notes on the bass fretboard, I made
some "flashcards". They have a graphic of the bass neck on one side and staff
with a note on the other. The frets are lettered in the graphic so a non
musician (wife or girlfriend?) can assist with practice. A postscript version
called BNOTES.PS lives in the directory below. If you have postscript printing
capabilities and feel like proof reading this for me, or if you think you
would find it to be a useful learning aid, please print it out and let me know
what you think. Print it out and fold the sheets in half length wise ... it will
be evident when you see it. It covers all the notes through fret 13 on all
four strings.

BASS.PS;1 47 (RWED,RWED,RE,R)
BNOTES.PS;1 566 (RWED,RWED,RE,R)

These were made with Powerpoint so they're real easy to modify.

For those who requested access to the Powerpoint files for this:

I put two more files in the directory mentioned in 3213.0. The first,
B_READ.PPT, is the Powerpoint slide show for the "flash cards". The
second, B_NOTES.PPT, are some "seed slides". This has a blank graphic
of the bass neck in ungrouped form so more strings can be added - or
whatever - by anyone who knows Powerpoint.

For those who wanted to rotate the staff 180 degrees so that everything
looks "right side up" on the printed page: Be aware that on some of the
slides the staff graphic may not be grouped, and if you rotate it
without out grouping it first it will really look scrambled.

    Have fun!
