3206.1 | Good luck | SSDEVO::LAMBERT | We ':-)' for the humor impaired | Wed Jun 12 1996 10:21 | 15 |
| You'll probably need a catalog. I've found that these places (Musician's
Friend, AMS, etc) are real particular about what they carry. (I hope a
Gibson pickguard will work for your purposes, if you get my drift...)
"Guitar Parts Accessories", etc, are great if you want to build your own
axe, but don't carry many "replacement" parts.
If you just want to start calling 800 #s there's a "mail order dealers"
note way back there somewhere.
But, if you *do* find a source, I'm looking for a truss rod cap nut for a
Hohner fretless bass...

| Well, TRW is like, um, TRW in that they're a conglomerate that owns
companies that make _everything_. It's the same TRW that makes miltary
electronics, machine tools, etc.
BTW, I found a Fender truss rod nut that will fit after I tap it out...

| WD is one company that makes "replacement" parts. I've had mixed
experiences with replacement parts. Some fit perfectly, and some
don't fit at all. Allparts, and Stewart McDonald are other sources
for replacement parts. Chandler is also in this market, although
I'm not sure if they are as heavy into parts as they used to be.
I would imagine the only suitable replacement would be a pickgaurd
off a Gibson 335/345/355. There are 2 differant versions of the
335 gaurd. The old original style pickgaurd used on early semi's
was longer than the newer style gaurd. I think the one you want
is a remake of the old (longer) one.
BTW, what exactly do you find so objectionable about the Epiphone
symbol? John Lee Hooker doesn't seem to mind the one on his Sheritan.
If this is just painted on, you could remove the paint very easily
with some Mcguire's polish #4. Once you remove the logo, polish
with Mcguires #7 and it will restore the shine.

| Actually, got word from Epiphone that the logo is
only screened on, and should come off with either
rubbing compound or a detergent...
I'll try it sometime...

| McGuires is essentially a mild rubbing compound available in several
differant grades. I doubt that detergent will budge the logo.

| You're better off checking in Auto Parts stores. McGuires is an
automotive product. CAP and/or ADAP generally carry it.

Correct spelling is Meguiars. Best polish/waxes on the market imho.
I use nothing but Meguiars on my car.

| I picked up some rubbing compound last night, (couldn't
find any McGuires. It was slow going at first, but I
wound up using a little bit of scouring powder with the
compound, and that got the logo off the pickguard.
Then used a clean cloth with the rubbing compound to
remove the surface scratches the scouring powder left,
after that, I used some polish to smooth it all out..
Surprisingly enough, the log *IS* gone, and the
pickguard didn't take too much of a beating in the
process.... You really can't tell the logo was
there, or that it was taken off with an abbrasive.
Cool!
