| | When I lived in Nashua I use to go to a teacher named Nick Byrd. He's

an ol' timer but he taught me some very useful licks and some
interresting chord voicings. His style is kind of "folky"/rockabilly.
He did teach me to sight read. I can't remember the name of the street
of the store he taught at. But it's on that main street that goes
    through downtown.

The only store that fits that description now is Darrell's Music Hall.
Is that the place you remember? It's really a piano showroom, so I'd
be kinda surprised if they do guitar lessons there, but if they do, it
    could work for me.

| | I just called Darrell's and they told me that Nick moved back to
Missouri "a few years ago". This is a bit of a bummer because I just
remembered that Nick used to play in my father's band years ago! In
fact, I remmeber watching him play while sitting on the basement steps
in my pajamas before I was sent off to bed! Sheesh!

| | I was wondering where he picked up that cool feel for blues. Yes,
I remember now . Darrell's. Oh well. Ya might want to try Daddy's.
    I remember that one.

Much of the music I like has chords like D/C. How are these "\" chords
played?

| | The letter before the "/" is the main chord to be played. The letter
after the "/" is the bass note to be played. D/C might be played like
    this:

    -|-2----------
    -|-3----------
    -|-2----------
    -|-0----------
    -|-3----------
    -|------------

Don't be afraid to use your thumb on that third fret note.

    Another easy way for D/C:

    -|---------------x
    -|------1--------
    -|------1--------
    -|------1--------
    -|---------------x
    -|-------2-------
            ^
            7th fret

You all know the standard joke about guitar players and light bulbs
    right:

Question: How many guitarists does it take to change a light bulb?

Answer: one to change the light bulb, and a dozen to stand around
and say how much better they could do it

    Or something like that...

I thought it would be funny to start a series of "How [insert famous
    player] would play a D/C...

    So...

    Allan Holdsworth:
