| I live in Worcester, but I'm not familiar with any local instructors.
Larry Vignealt probably can refer you to someone.

| Thanks Mark. You know I've got a ton of questions I'd like to
ask in this conference, but it seems to be less and less active.
Too bad.

Hmmm ... you want to ask questions, but there's not much activity
in here.
And there's not much activity in here because no one's asking
questions.
It's a vicious circle. 8^)

| I guess your right. I phrased it wrong. I should have said in the good
old days you could count on a lot of replies very quickly.

Well in the good old days there were a lot more people around! I don't
know if I'm paranoid but here in the UK 90% of the DEC UK guitarists I
knew 5 years ago have all gone. Have THEY got it in for guitarists!

I used to be up on teachers in the Worcester area, but not anymore.
I've heard good things about a couple of the teachers at Clemente's
studio on Portland street. Joe DeAngelo, and Rich (forget his last
name, I think it's Falcon or Falvey or something like that). I studied
with Steve Cancelli for years who's an excellent jazz player, but he
got frustrated with the attitude of most of the newer students and
as far as I know, isn't teaching any longer. You could look him up in
the phone book and give him a call to see where he's at.
Jack Pezzenelli (sp?) is another superb player who I've heard gives
lessons on a limited basis. He was Pete Clemente's nephew I believe,
but I don't know how to get ahold of him. Maybe through Clemente
studios.
Hope this helps, Larry

3175.8 | Joe D'angelo and Rich Falcone | PCBUOA::ANDERSON_R | | Tue Feb 20 1996 09:08 | 8 |

Thank you. I've known Joe D. for years and have studied with him.
He is awesome but because I know him so well, for some reason I find it
tough to be his student. Rich Falcone has such a huge following, that
he limits his teaching to very experienced players. I was looking for a
more blues oriented teacher firmly grouded in theory and reading.

3175.9 | Free music courses for children | MILKWY::JACQUES | Vintage taste, reissue budget | Tue Feb 20 1996 09:47 | 19 |
| I know a young kid that is learning guitar. He is taking lessons
from Joe D'angelo and is very happy with Joe's teaching style.
There is a church somewhere in Worcester that offers *free* music
instruction to children. They do a basic intro to Music course that
all students take. In the intro course, the child gets to try out a
variety of instruments and gets a feel for each one. Once they complete
the intro course, they choose the instrument they wish to learn. Then
they move on to instruction for that particular instrument. I think
this is a Greek Orthodox church but (surprisingly enough) they will
accept students that are not church members. I know a Greek family that
belongs to this church. Two of their children took the intro course.
One moved on to guitar and the other moved on to Keyboards. Maybe the
youngest child will learn drums and they will have their own band!
From what I understand this church depends on volunteers to teach the
music program. Sounds like they have some very dedicated people helping
out with this program.

| I highly recommend Joe D'Angelo as a teacher... excellent musicianship
and a cool delivery in his teaching style. I studied with Joe years ago
and he taught me this if nothing else: Improvise and to trust my own
instincts as a player. It did the trick for me... I'm still doin' gigs.
On Joe's recommendation I took a few lessons with Rich Falco, an
absolutely brilliant jazz player, but I soon resigned myself to the
fact that I am not a purist in the jazz tradition.. and Rich's approach
to teaching demanded that. How can Joe Pass and Lou Reed both sound so
good to me?
I believe Joe works out of the Clemente Music Studio in Worcester.
Good Luck,
Jim

3175.12 | The Joneses, August, Code Blue | PCBUOA::ANDERSON_R | | Thu Feb 22 1996 08:46 | 8 |
| Joe and Jimmy D'Angelo were both members of the Joneses in the
mid to late 60's. Joe was THE local guitar hero who has subsequently
gone on to being a fine jazz guitarist and teacher. Jimmy is self
taught, and still plays the local scene on occasion with his band
Code Blue (named after a condition he once found himself!).
In the early 70's they both used to share the stage with the likes of
groups such as Aerosmith. Joe still can't understand why there is any
adulation whatsoever for Joe Perry!
