3172.0. "Guitar repairs in the Lowell/Nashua area?" by DECWIN::TAKVORIAN () Fri Feb 09 1996 10:39

The bridge of my classical guitar has literally come
'unglued', so I'm looking to have it repaired somewhere
that is reputable.

I live in Littleton, MA, but am working out of ZKO in
Nashua, NH. Does anyone have any good leads on places
that can do this repair? Also, does anyone know (ballpark)
the price range for such a repair?

I've heard of Russo's in Lowell (not sure how good they
are) and McDuff's in Shrewsbury (I checked with them but
they have recently gone out of business).

Any good leads will be appreciated.

    Stringed instrument repairs:

My number one choice would be Jack Meany of Boston Banjo Company in
Avon - who has dealt with every form of stringed instrument. He was
starting to pull back from some of his activities, but he may help out.
    He certainly knows stringed instruments!

There's still a luthier in Waltham off Moody Street that may be able to
    help out.

Liberty Music in FRamingham may be a good choice - ask to speak with
    George.

Fiddlers Choice in Jaffrey, NH does some stringed instrument repairs
and they are knowledgable. They at one time had and association with a
local luthier who used to be employed there.

Vintage Fret in Ashland, NH, does some spectacular repair jobs, and
have a luthier on premises. I was amazed at some of his unbelievable
work and asked him when he learned his trade and he said, "I learn it
EVERY day." A good WA answer, but it got me off his back so he could
go back to work. They ARE pricey for new and used instruments, and I
    assume repairs.

There's always Music Emporium in Lexington, MA - off 2A on the
Arlington line, but the last two times I went in I got bad vibes from
them (I know...stay away from the vibes and stick to the strings -
before someone else says it :-), and they are pricey also.

    hope that helps.

Bring it to Richard Stanley; he's in Concord, right down the
    riad from Littleton.

That would be Jack O'Brien. He still does work for Fiddlers (as far as I
know), but you can also reach him direct at 532-4398.

BTW, he is good. I had him do some work last year on a 191x Gibson F4, and
it came out real nice. His prices are, to me, reasonable.

Jack O'Brian is an authorized repairman for Martin. I've been to his workshop
and seen his work. He could do bridgework in his sleep.

RE: .6

Yep. His workshop is almost as amazing as the work he does. And I
thought I was good at packing a lot into small places :-) :-)

BTW, when I took my Gibson to him, he was in the process of working
on a Loar F5. That was a *nice* instrument. He told me he didn't
really like having it around because it was so valuable. Must be
    nice :-) :-) :-)

Last I knew, he was also an authorized Fender repairman.
