3080.0. "Gruven display stands and hangers." by COMETZ::JACQUES (Vintage taste, reissue budget) Mon May 15 1995 12:19
This note is for "Gruven" products.
For those unfamilar with Gruven, they make products intended
for musical-instrument retailers. These mainly include instrument
display stands, and display hangers.
The display stands are extremely popular at guitar shows. They
are very light and fold completely flat. Gruven has a few differant
styles. The basic style will hold any instrument ranging from small
mandolins, to full-sized guitars. They offer a slimline stand for
thin or solid-body instruments. They recently introduced a "safety"
stand which offers increased protection so the instrument can't be
knocked off the stand as easily. These stands are probably not suitable
for stage use, but for retail displays, shows, or use in a home studio
they are awesome. I just bought a half dozen of the basic model and I
love them. I'd buy more, but I have limited space in my home studio.
The instrument hangers are made to use with 1/4" pegboard or with
"Slatwall" panels. Slatwall panels are what you see in most stores.
They come in 4x8 sheets and look like tongue-n-groove boards that
run horizontally.
The instrument hangers are available in 3 styles, front facing,
left facing, and right facing. They are made of steel with a black
painted finish and rubber covered cradles. You see these in just
about every music store. I ran a strip of Slatwall panels around 2
of the walls in my studio and have 8 of each type hanger.
Gruven products can be purchased through Stewart MacDonald, or
direct from Gruven. There was an ad in 20th Century Guitar last month
that included a phone number for ordering direct by mail. The stands
generally sell for about $10/each and the hangers are about $5/each
but better prices can be had if you buy a quantity.
I highly recommend both the stands and the hangers for anyone
wishing to display their instruments, or just leave them out so you
can play them whenever the spirit moves you.
